paint carbon fiber hood?

a buddy of mine suggested that i should paint a coat or two of black on my carbon fiber hood. when doing so, it would make the hood look more black, and at the same time the carbon fiber would show through the paint. has anyone heard of this before?? does anyone happen to have any pictures of anything like this?

ferrari f40 and f50 (i think?) are said to have such a thin coat of paint that you can actually see the carbon fiber weaving through the paint.

dunno if that helps any.

it all depends on how much paint u spray, how much air/paint ratio the sprayer has, how slow u go, u gotta look into all that, if u go quick enough, yes ur gonna have a light *** coat, but dunt even waste the money.

I definitely agree!!. I think if u do end up painting it, id think that if u want the weaves to show, i think that it would work better if the CF did not have clear coat before you painted it because the clear coat pretty much smooths out the weaves. Goodluck and post pics if u do do it

i know the f40 does it. you can see carbon fiber weaving thru the paint. I don't know what's so bad about painting the cf hood, i mean after all, ferrari does it and we all trying make our cars look like something else, right? (ie: k20 swap, IS300 conversions, lambo doors)

You could mix the color with a clear coat, about a 25/75 mixture (75 being the clearcoat) to give it a translucent quality so that you'd still be able to see it the cf through the paint. Might look alright... I'm getting a hood and trunk, and when I repaint, I'm gonna do the pearl on them as well.

i dont think carbon fiber should be painted, cuz then what the point of having carbon fiber IMO

and dont say cuz it reduces weight, cuz its only a couple of pounds for da hood

i went to a local shop last night and bought a cf hood and the guy told me he was down in LA at some convention or some BS and that a lot of people were starting to put vinal on the cf.

the vinal has to color match your car - and then be placed on the two sides of the hood where it sort of has indentations. he said if you do it right it gives the look of a smaller hood - like the s2000 has

i dunno - i think it'd look crappy

you're just know finding out about this?!?! ppl do that so they can just take off the vinyl (not spelled vinal) w/o messin' up their hood. it doesnt look bad if its done right. your hoods not gonna look smaller...just different.

why would you paint a cf part the only reason i think we change stuff to cf is because it's lighter. then if you paint it its gonna be heavier and at the end you didnt do anything. if you want to paint it why just dont keep the oem hood

ferraris and all cars that have cf bodies use special paints and treatments to use the least amount of paint possible to reduce weight. those cars do not have regular paint jobs thats somoe of the reason they cost that much.
