Good Question.I know I have seen more people with older model civ hatches go with B series.I don't have an explaination though.Maybe the engine is lighter itself and is easier or cheaper to mod......?
BTW: I gave you some good rep for a good question.

Screw the H and B series... Drop a K20 in there... I've heard it done before on a '93 Civic. Try to do a search. I'm sure something will come up...
And street racing is bad. Take it to the tracks... At least that way you dont endanger other people's lives.

Curious, into racing and such, but know nothing about Hondas.
Best bang for the buck. B18C1. Integra GSR motor. Cheapest motor with potential. Easiest install. Plenty of upgrades.
H series. Too heavy for a street car. Problems with install. Parts and motor more expensive.
K series. Nice motor, but more money. Almost twice the motor price, plus all accessories to get install are twice to three times more. Upgrade parts are harder to find, and some will have to be custom fabbed. Electronics are also way more complex to get it running properly. It can be done, but it will cost three times the amount to make the same horsepower.

welll to b serious.. old civics were better then the new 1s..93 hatch hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. i think u should put a B18c typr R with LSD gear or B16A or B16 B...change cams do some head worx..throw inn a BIIIIIG turbo and with stock internals u can open upto 11psi of boost which can give u major gains
B series all the way.... H series ownes.. dope engine... but like the doode said... big project... big engine, to complicated and heavy... for what your doing for... B will b the best for your ride... and K series would be dope.... but very very $$$$$... good luck to ya...
