Wow, are those AC vents going to be functional anymore? In my opinion, that looks tacky. Ive done my fair shar of interior painting a while ago with my old car, and after a while, you just regret it. But thats just me.

1. That paint's gonna crack and look like crap, especially since you didn't prime. I assume you went to the autoparts store and got the duplicolor made for plastics, no?
2. The paint's also going to crack and flake around the adjustment levers, because they weren't taken apart and painted properly. I can tell because of the way the paint is gobbed up in the corners around the adjustment levers.
3. Is that primer on the surround for the vents?
4. It's going to crack because you did the first two steps, and the fact that there is cold air coming out of them, leading to condensation.
5. "Rice, Rice baby....... Vanilla, Rice Rice baby..."

Yes, yes you do need to prime when you use spray paint. Unless you want it to look like crap. You want to use a sandable, filler primer in order to smooth the imperfections. You also want to properly sand the primer so that the paint comes out smooth. Meaning the first coat of primer should be sanded almost all the way off, and appear splotchy. Then, another prime coat is applied, and sanded with a finer grit paper. Working your way up to a self etching primer and sanding. And finishing off with a sandable, non-filler primer. Then, you paint. And sand, and paint and sand, and paint and sand. Then clear and sand, and clear and sand, and clear and sand. Then you want to use a finishing/polishing compound and buff the shine to a mirror finish. I wrote a long post in a thread in ice about painting, but this is a somewhat condensed version.

Errrmmm..... I'm open to different things...
BUT..... learn to paint better. 3 tips: Many LIGHT coats over a period of time will give much better results, Red is a color that should have a light primer under it because red is a very weak pigment. Use SATIN finish. I painted my dash gauge bezel ultra flat black because the sun kept glaring out the gauges. It took 6 fine coats to do because of the shape.
It looks ok... but most people get tired of the look after a while.
