Rep Power: 258 yea its for a screen. just look at the link to the other thread in the ICE forum.
here is another thread from mp3car.com
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=29208
I was using a laptop with docking station but i want a permanet comptuer in the trunk so i dont have to keep takingout my laptop when im done driving.
plus i have the new computer setup to turn on when the key is in the ignition and off when i take it out.
My next step after getting the screen is to get a new headunit, amp and a sub.
hopefully i'll be done by end of september.
heres a pic of what it looked liked from the back with the screen installed.
BTW it is a touchscreen.

Rep Power: 258 you can see the stock HU in the bottom there.
i made it so that you can fit in any other headunit. its a wood frame that will fit a different head unit.
I will get a diy here ASAP but im going to be in the hospital for the next 5days for a surgery so dont expect one yet.
actually heres a mini diy since i found some pics.
basically wat i did was open the LCD case. theres two parts to it. the front half and back half. so wat i did was use bondo and epoxy to glue in the front half to the double din slot. :
^here you can see why the bottom circle is blacked out. i didnt know oyu could take off the little circle pieces.
then once it was secure i used bondo to fill in the open spots. then using a filei filed it down then sanded then used bondo spot putty to fill in small scratches and bubbles. then i began the painting.
i probably have about 13 coats of paint. i used rubbing compound every 3 layers to get a smooth finished.

Rep Power: 0 Hey Dannn, How did you get it that smooth. i am doing it now and had to start over because when i started to paint bumps and holes showed up. what grade of sandpaper did you use. Did you use the glaze to fill the holes or what. My thread should be up shortly. Keep a look out. Great work by the way.

Rep Power: 258 current status of computer
alright so i revamped most of the system.
i got rid of the laptop setup and put in a small dc powered computer.
it turns on when i turn the key and turns off when i take the key out.
here are some pics of the new computer
im gonna go fanless, to minimize interference with the audio and such thats what that huge heatsink is for.
i recomend the epia series of mobos for this type of project. its VERY small use the hard drive in the pic as reference, the hard drive is around 3.5 by 5 inches. the epias come with embedded procesors, i got the 1ghz version, that is plently for a GPS, MP3 application.
