Customized Tallights 2004!
A year ago, Jaykuai photoshopped this:

in his thread http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=99606
It looked like a pretty good and I wanted
there's a funny part that starts on page 3 in his thread, where they try to contact a manufacturing company about making custom tails for 7th gens but failed (MUST READ
)
Months rolled by, and I don't think that any more aftermarket taillamps will be produced for 7th gens. To my knowledge, the following have been made for coupes:
'Donut' style, Jaguar style, Halo (jaguar style w/ clear lens instead of red), the APC and TYC ones
AND THEN the 2004 Civics rolled out with a fresh styling and new taillamps! They were perfect for making that little white strip

Anyway, here's my project from start to finish:
Started with old 'donut' altezzas (yup, I had them too
) and 2004 taillights off eBay ($60 shipped
)
+
=
after coats of primer, paint and clearcoat, here was the final product!

Wasn't a hard project. Someone's gonna say "you should have just taken off the entire oem lens and replaced it with the altezza clear lens and just tinted the top part"
Well, I wanted to keep some of the oem look. The back of the lens actually has some of the designs on it, not just a plain flat lens. really didnt want the borders, but had no choice since you could see the industrial adhesive through the clear lens.
After getting an alignment tomorrow i'm going to wash the car and take pics with them on. Tell me what you think

^trying to show you that the reflector is inside; fishtank-like

looks good, just paint the whole top part red so you cant see the turn signal. how did you get a whole reflector for the bottom then attach the two pieces?

the reflectors are part of the oem housing. They don't touch the lens so it was safe to trim off just the lens over the reflector area. And then I slapped on the glue and covered it with the trimmed bottom portion of the altezza lens.
I really wanted to get rid of the dot too, but if I didn't want to 'lose visibilty' or make it become 'rice' because it no longer serves it function :P

Creative.
But the thickness of that white strip looks thin. And yeah, the reverse light disturbs the flow of that strip too imo. But I wanna see the finished product.

on car
thanks for the comments
sorry I got lazy and only put one taillight on
Up close you can tell it's such a home-made/DIY project, but from a meter or so, it looks really fresh and the black borders are crisp. I wanted the white area to be larger too, like in the original chop; but the borders take away from it. It's only about 1.25 inch high
The new 2004 coupe taillights in general give a new feel to the car
bright and clean
(big pics on first page)

it's nuthin lol. just a reflector. basically i 'cleared' the oem 2004 taillights, like how members 'clear' the headlights by removing the amber piece.
The circle is the reverse light, the top area is brake and the middle area (next to the circle) is the turn signal
but that sounds like a cool idea though. I wish I could have thought of it before sealing them up

It's a good idea and looks nice, but I have a few problems with it.
1-I think it would look cleaner if you paint that black border the color of the car.
2-The white reverse light is taking away from the mod you did. Maybe try and tint the circle red .

i really like the way they look in the original chop. I give you props for how it came out on yours. I've really been looking around for ideas for a custom tail. And now Ideally i would like something like the original chop, with red LEDs but have that white area be the back up light and turn signal, light up white.
THe only real concern I would have with your setup there is that the reflectors in the back are now white, i'm not sure how quick a cop would pull you over for that.

Anything that sets you apart sets you above.
