I just placed an order for this Alpine unit this morning. It's the beginning step to re-doing my system since it was stolen last october. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-R36xUZu...&avf=Y&search=

That's a sweet deck. I like the clean display, and the backlight matches the coupe dash lights perfectly.

The only thing about this deck is that it connects directly to the battery. I have to use a 10 gauge wiring kit for it. This is the first time I'm using a deck like this.

I think its aiiiight I guess. That's just my opinion. I never really been a fan of JVC but if it has what you're looking for then its all good. As for the Alpine deck I was talking about, it have a V-drive. The Alpine V-Drive receivers require a direct fused connection to your battery. It is a little extra work for a receiver.

I'd recommend something from Pioneer. They've got such a crisp sound and such a nice display. At least, I think. I'd recommend the DEH-P7600MP if you want CD/MP3 capability.

I have a pioneer 940mp and love it. That jvc is crap and doesn't even look good. Doesn't that alpine need external amps to power the speakers/subs? If I had a coupe though, that's the deck I would get.

I've got a DEX-P1R in my car, and I love it. Only major complaint that I've got is that it's an older deck and that I can't see the damned thing during the day. Sure looks good as hell at night though.

To answer that question, no it deoesn't need external amps. It's got a seperate unit that allows you to hook up external amps and use the deck to adjust settings on the amp but I won't be needing external amp to power my speakers. The only thing that makes this deck different is just the direct connection to the battery.

This deck is great. Absolutly beautiful display. The think with that Alpine is it looks like that sucker is like $100. I know it has all the functionallity, but if your gonna spend the money...dude, get something that will impress. When ever people get in my car they immediatly bring up my headunit and how sick it is.

I know what you're saying man. I used to have a nice deck too. An Eclipse 6.5" DVD right up front but that sucker got stolen. I've been playing with audio since I had my other car, a 1995 Accord. After getting my **** stolen, I'm just not drawn to the whole audio that much anymore. I'm just looking for what's good enough and not really try'na draw that much attention to it. I'm more focussed on getting boosted right now more than anything else. Thanx for the advice tho

^lol yeah. If I needed a headunit "just to get by," I'd be buying one for about $250 - not $550.

I have an Alpine 7897 (The PhantomfaceXL one where the faceplate retracts and looks like its removed) and I bought it mainly because I knew I'd get tired of taking the faceplate off, and with my luck as soon as I left it on, it'd get stolen.

Very nice deck you ordered though. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

^Thanx. I know it's kind of expensive for a deck but just like Solidus said tho, that sucker looks like its only $100. So maybe I'm not looking "just to get by" but, it's all good. I have a long way to go before I'll be finished tho. After this deck, I'm gonna put all my money towards a turbo.

I've actually been thinking about getting rid of my HU and getting something a better. Probably something that has an OLED display in it, so I can see it during the day. I'd definately go with another Pioneer HU, but something from the Premier line. But, it's hard to let go of the HU I've got, espically considering I paid almost $900 for it. That, and it matches the OEM metal-look trim kit *perfectly*. That was a major coincidence, espically considering I bought the HU about 2 years prior to my car.

I like that head unit, wish I had it, but I have the step lower (9833). The display and sound are great on the Alpine units.

Any HU made by ///ALPINE, Clarion, Blaupunkt, or Eclispe over $300 is going to be amazing. Hell, I would rather watch movies on my 7" clarion than most huge projection HDTVs.
kenwood and Panasonic are getting there, but they still can't touch the quality of the 4 mentioned earlier.
JVC and Sony leave alot to be desired.

I agree, those are great companies. But there is a major difference between the display of say a $300 Alpine and a $300 Pioneer headunit.
The Alpine with have all the audio functionallity if not more than the Pioneer. But Alpine isn't out there to make amazing looking headunits. Were as Pioneer knows their target audience want a HU that really stands out and just looks sick! Thats why that one Alpine that stared this thread looks like a $100 Sony.

The amp and sub thing has nothing to do with it. If you want a sick looking HU it is already going to have a sub output. I guess the question is how much do you want to spend?

I just modified my order to get the 9833. For just $100 more it has the three lines of easy-to-read system info from Alpine's sharp-looking BioLite display. I figured it's not that important to have it.

I wouldn't buy an HU from eBay. A lot of them are "grey" boxes. That means that they are normally refurb'd units and people are passing them off as new. I know that Pioneer will not warranty any part bought on eBay because of this reason. I'm sure other companies are doing the same thing. Your best bet is to buy from a brick-n-mortar place or someone reputable online.

I was debating between that one and the Alpines CDA-9835, CDA-9833. I've had three Kenwoods in the past and had no problems with them. 1 Alpine. 1 Clarion. 1 Eclipse. I just decided to go with Alpine again. I also went thru 3 Kenwood Amps too.

As far as prices go, when it comes to the car, you get what you pay for. I'm pretty sure that there's other people that can back me up on this. I think. Anyway, eBay might be the place for you. Personally, I'm never ordering anything for my car off of eBay. None of my friends are really into cars like I am so I can't rely on that either.
