Ok so yesterday morning when I was heading to school down the road some lady speeds out of a side road once I saw the nose of her car from around a suburban turning on that road i slammed on my brakes, unfortunatly that wasn't enough, I ended up t-boning her, her jeep grand cherokee swerves and then topples over on to the roof. I try to rush out of my car but my door only is able to open about a foot so I squezz out, the lady made it out with out a scratch thank god. The lady was crying and I felt bad even though it was not my fault, well we started talking when she calmed down and she said that she couldnt see my car because of the suburban turning in the right lane. Anyways it really sux, i'm just so glad she is ok. My car is not so good the engine appeared to be pushed back 2 inches, the front is all crumpled and yet the airbags didnt deploy which I found odd... the lady's car is definitly totalled, everyone is telling me not to feel bad for her because she shouldn't have gone across but she was so sweet. I don't know. But anyways with the engine bay pushed back and all the front messed up does that sound like its totalled? And if there was enough force for the engine to be pushed back 2 inches shouldnt the airbags have deployed?

Glad to hear your okay. Where did this happen at? And I think you REALLY need to be going fast for the Airbags to deploy, cause I've rearended a Durango before and slammed into their trailer hitch and nothing...

Im glad you're OK.. The SRS should have deployed. Most frontal airbags are designed to inflate in crashes equivalent to hitting a solid barrier at 10-12 mph. Some manufacturers use different inflation thresholds depending on whether people are using their safety belts. Thresholds of 10-12 mph are typically used for unbelted occupants, but thresholds are higher -- about 16 mph -- for people with belts because the belts alone are likely to provide adequate protection up to these moderate speeds.
You should not feel bad, because she should not have pulled out if her path of vision was blocked by another vehicle..
I believe the car would only be totaled, if either A. the frame is bent, or B. the estimated damages are more than what the car is worth. (I could be wrong on either, Im not in insurance)..
Got pics of the cars?
Again, I'm glad your alright.

Wow, I'm glad you and the lady came out allright.
Don't let anyone discourage you from feeling sorry for the other person. She lost a buttload of cash on that one, not to mention her insurance will have a new figure on it for the next 3 years. Feeling sorry in a situation is fine, just so long as you remember that she's buying you a new car.
Without seeing it, it's hard to say. That being said, on a uni-body construction (which Vic's are) if the engine moves, the car is dead. Here's an easy test, can you open and close all the doors PROPERLY? And do the body panels including the trunk still line up? I the answer to and of these is no, you're car *is* totaled and will never be the same no matter what the insurance company(s) say to the contrary. Don't let them jew you out of a new car!!! (no offense to any Jews on the board, figure of speech) Another good sign is if the engine/tranny has moved. Since it has, look at the lateral engine mounts (the ones on the sides) if the bracket they bolt to is not bent or cracked off the frame, your car is dead. If it's bent/cracked you stand about a 10% chance of the unibody still being road-worthy. Another thing to check for damage are front suspension components, if they look severley damaged or ripped off the frame, the car is done.
Airbag deployment on the new Vics and on most newer cars in general is a science more compicated than Physics and Trig inbred. It won't deploy the bags unless it thinks that you're gonna hit the wheel. If you're Vic is/was so equipped, it would have fired the seat-belt airbags to hold you FIRMLY in the seat therefore not needing to deploy the full bags. Any more, it takes a hellova impact to pop the bags, as there were many more wounded than saved by the 1st gen airbags.
Please do keep us posted. I've seen a LOT of wrecked cars in my time and talked to quite a few insurance companies on behalf of the car's owners, that and I've got a few years of collision repair under my belt.

US insurance dosen't bill you more if it's not your fault.
You've gotta watch them though, the cops can say it's not your fault while the insurance pukes say it is your fault. If you get into a banger and your insurance goes up without it being your fault, call 'em up and find out whats going on.

I don't really understand how bad the wreck was. You explained it one way to me personally then a little different here. If it's as serious as it initially sounded I doubt your car will ever be the same unfortunately. But if your airbag didn't deploy because you didn't hit hard enough then who knows.
I remember when I had the accident in my 91 Vic. After I got it out of the shop and drove it around for a week it just felt different and I got rid of it a month later. Kinda sad.
Hopefully your car comes out ok.
