whassup,
I just got my side skirts in the mail the other day from customauto.ca, and when i open the box i see one of the arms for the wheel well bolts is broken off. I was still happy I had them at the time and it didnt bother me, but after trying to fit them properly, im really annoyed. They barely even fit on the passenger side, and the front door gets caught when i tried to open it. Ive tried many different ways of installing them, and none of them seem right. Along with the fact that the ABS plastic is so weak on the arms that when I go to put them on I can see it turning white (like when plastic is ready to break) right at the joint.
So I wanna know if anyone with the type A sides has this same problem, or is it I just got cheap knockoff ones that are garbage.
Anyone got them from customauto.ca.
Thanks
(also ive searched already and havent found this similar problem)

dacivic: yah i e-mailed the guy to ask him, but im still waiting for a response.
ktxcin: these are abs plastic tho. I mean they fit alright, but nothing like what it would be like. I can see them breaking in the near future if i install them.
So does anyone who has the same ones have any problems?
Thanks

^^yah i guess so, but i bet the guy would lie too me anyways. I think im just going to get a shop to install them with the proper bonding agents or whatever. Then i guess if the arms break the skirt will still stay on. I PM'ed a couple people and they all had the same problems of crappy fitment...kinda sucks but not everything is perfect!

Not all sides fit exactly, since they're not OEM. Your best bet is to find a shop that can fix them to fit if you really like the sides.

yah thats true. Its just annoying when stuff doesnt fit properly! You think it would be nicely expensive to have them mount them? I think i could pull it off, but i dont want them to break, so if its nottoo much then id let them do it.

I see some scratches on my bumper because I forced it to put it on... hopefully my G5 wont be like that though... hopefully not!

I heard the urethane shrinks when it's cold? and vice versa?.. or something like that? I also bought a xenon side skirts one time.. and it says on the instruction if they wouldn't fit well.. leave them under the sunlight for 30 mins to go back to its original size because temp (warm/cool) affects urethanes...
does anybody know better than this? I couldn't remember what I read 3 months ago...

pnoiracer:yah the same thing happend when i went to insatll my type b front. I got a little scratch on the inside of the wheel well...no big deal i guess. It could be that it shrinks when its cold. Does anyone know forshure? Maybe if i heat up the skirts they will go on better! Thanks
i had the same problem as u dont worry... the door rubbing the sideskirt can be fixed. this is what u do:
***(before u do this make sure that the car is jacked up in the rear because u will need to take the rear wheel off in order to mount the rear part of the skirt. for the front, u need to turn the wheel left and right so that u can maneuver ur hand and screwdriver behind the tire in order to tightly secure the screws in the front wheel well that will be holding up the skirts.)
1. put double sided tape behind the sidekirt on the top edge where it can stick against the body of the car.
2. u mount the skirts front first, have a friend hold the rear side up while u mount the front. before u do anything u peel about 5 inches of the double sided in the front part of the skirt. leave the backing sticking out from the top so that u can pull on it later. align it and mount it.
3. re use the screws thats holding ur splash guards to mount the two arms in the front of the skirt (refer to my memo on the top to make this easier for u). push the skirt in so that the double sided tape will stick. make sure it is aligned! u should have the back piece of the tape sticking out above the skirt.
4. slowly peel about 5 inches more of the backing of the tape and align it and then push it in to stick. keep opening and closing the door to make sure that the part of the skirt that is already stuck on to the car with the tape does not hit the door. if it does, re align it again then stick it on. continue doing this working ur way slowly to the back. remember to keep opening and closing the door after u have stuck the tape on every 5 inches making sure that the door isnt hitting the body. u might have to align and push the part under the door a little lower so that it wont hit. u will run into a little problem once u get towards the back. ill discuss that in step 5.
5. by now ur probably cursing out loud that the back piece doesnt fit, its too short! dont worry... have a friend help u push the rear part in, forcing it to get the skirt as close as possible to the body (it may not be perfect but it will be close enough). while ur friend is holding that in for u, peel the last of backing of the tape and push it in hard so that the rear part of the skirt will stick to the body. dont let ur friend let go of the rear side of the skirt after u have stuck and pushed the rear part in for the tape to stick. tell his azz to hold it for a sec.
6. u will need a power drill, phillips head drill bit, and two 5 inch long self tapping screws to finish mounting the skirts (this is why u need to take the rear wheel off because u need the room for ur arm and the drill to properly align the screw straight into the skirts rear screw hole and into the wheel well). your friend should still be holding the rear part in for u! put the screw in the hole in the rear part of the skirt and tap it into the wheel well. align it properly, so that it is straight, then drill away until the head is about 1cm away from the surface of the side skirt. from there tighten it by hand, so that u dont over tighten and snap the rear part of the skirt, until the head of the screw is securely resting on top of the hole. tadaaaa!!!! ur side skirt is securely fastened.
7. take a break, smoke a cigarette, have a beer, because u will have to repeat these steps all over again to mount the other side. lol
***suggestions:
-remove one rear wheel at a time depending on which side ur doing first.
-(trust me!) becareful not to knock the jack out of the way!!!!
-for u super **** perfectionists out there, if u want the side skirts to fit flush against the body without cutting and re fiberglassing it, i dont suggest u do this but u can take a hammer maybe a mallet and pound the **** out of the rear quarter panel edge that flaps over the bottom part of rear wheel well about half an inch to 1 inch inwards until the skirt goes in and looks flush. (it might be just a little itty bitty tight, but thats the closest ur gonna get to perfect). its kind of like rolling ur fenders in a way but just that bottom part. becareful not to over do it and screw up ur rear quarter panel. REMEMEBER! i do not suggest u do this, but if u have ***** like to roll ur fenders urself, chances are u will be able to do this.
p.s. here are some pics on how it will like, these are from Jayfreazy's car which i hope he doesnt mind me sharing with u guys. after i get my skirts painted back from the body shop maybe ill take DIY pics if theres enough interest.

one more thing if u really want to cut it to fit better, cut it at that line where the edge of the fender and the door meet. ive seen these style of oem skirts before on other cars at the body shop where the side skirts are composed of 2 pieces and the edges of both pieces of the skirt meet at the line where the fender and the door's edges meet.
2 examples of cars that use this style of 2 piece side skirts are:
Lexus IS300 sedan, stock sides (not sure about the wagon)
Ford Focus hatchback, sides (not sure about the sedan or wagon)
another car that has something similar to this is the hachiroku - AE86 Trueno- Toyota Corrola GTS. this car has 3 piece sideskirts. if anyone is familiar with this car u might wanna check that out too. these pertain to the JDM factory sides and i think the J Blood sideskirts as well (not too sure).
i came up with this idea a while back but i was too lazy to try it and on top of that i had no time. so if someone decides to try this, pls. let us know how it turned out and show us how it looks.

2002EM or i think his name is ikon_em2 now said that he accidentaly kicked his which caused
it to crack.
Jayfreazy says the snow build up and the tires constantly pushing more snow to stick and build up in the wheel well hits that part of the skirt with a light impact not to mention the pressure it puts on the skirt since the snow is heavy weighing it down like someone is pulling or pushing on it. on top of that liquid expands when it freezes so if a lil water gets into the lil crevices of that stretch mark and it freezes, the water will expand in the crevices and cause the skirt to crack.
so.... i suggest:
1. do not scrape and hit the skirt on a speed bump or incline!!!
2. take ur skirts off in the winter time when u drive ur car, or clean the snow build up off the front and rear part of the skirt every time u park ur car. since there is no heat coming from ur engine escaping underneath the car, that snow that built up in ur wheel well can really harden causing the skirt to crack due to expansion of liquids when frozen or because ur tire hit the snow while it was still hard causing impact to the skirt as well causing it to crack.
i hope u guys understand what im saying, i tried my best explaining it in words as opposed to demonstrating which wouldve been easier.
ok, this one is for those whose skirts already cracked in those areas where the stress marks were visible.
this is Jayfreazy's solution to fix those pesky cracks:
1. put silicone in the crack.
2. take a credit card and sculp/flatten the silicone flat so that it isnt that obvious bulging out. let it dry overnight.
3. use touch up paint to paint over the silicone to match it to ur sideskirt!
tadaaaa!!! thats Jayfreazy's ghetto way of fixing the crack on ur sideskirt.
howd u like that?
p.s. yeah it sux ur skirt cracked, but look on the bright side, now u can stretch ur skirt back a lil more allowing it to fit perfectly in the back. see, its not so bad after all.
