Installing body kit
OK guys,
I have a factory style fibreglass body kit that I'm going to get put on this week. I went to a body shop that did a little work for me before to get a price. They did good work for me last time so I figure they'll do a good job. We tried to fit the kit to the car and it's going to need a bit of work to fit it on. He told me that it'd cost me about $750 (canadian) to fit, paint and install.
I brought the kit to another place today to get another price. This place was really run down so I wasn't so sure about it. The guy came out and had a look and said he could do it for $500 but I'm not sure if I trust him. He said the front and back pieces were going to have to be fused on. So if I don't like it or he messes it up I won't be able to get it off without ripping the bumbers up. The first place never mentioned anything about fusing.
He also said he was going to have to paint the kit on the car because if you paint it off the car you have to leave it for about a week before you can install it. The first place said he would paint it before installing it and it would only take 2 days!
What should I do?

how the hell do you "fuse on" a kit.
painting the kit on the car will ruin your paint in the areas near the kit such as the fenders and rear quarter panel.
take it to the $750 place, period. you get what you pay for.

He uses some fusing gun to attach it to the body cause there's nowhere to bolt it on the front and back except on the ends.
I'm sure he's going the cover the other areas of the car when he's painting the kit.

MY body kit was painted on the car with my first three. That way, they can blend the surrounding areas so that it matches. This time however, I'm gonna paint the entire car so thats not a factor, course I'm shaving handles, and keyholes, and the truck, and the remaining emblem, and having a flush mount spoiler molded on... as far as the fusion gun goes, he's probably meaning some sort of gun similar to a caulk gun that has a high strength glue/bonding material in it. And when he is talking about the days to wait before installing it when he paints is, he's allowing time for the paint to cure. Though 10 days is a bit much.

SOME PEOPLE JUST DONT KNOW WHATS RIGHT! Obvisously not everyone can paint there car or just paint crap in general. So thats a no brainer. Take that to get it painted, but then to save money cuz shops want to rape you in the butt, put the kit on by yourself. Its not rocket science. Its better to do the work yourself and learn, and for something simple like putting a body kit on, you should do this yourself. I bet they are charging like $250 to put the kit on.
But like i said, just get done want you cant do yourself, which is the paint. And put the kit on with a friend or something to make it easier.
