Arrow Is this a good DIY mod?

I just painted that black ring around the trunk key lock to match the car. Looks cleaner since I don't have anything else that's black back there. What do you guys think? I just masked off the areas around the outside and used touchup paint. Came out okay, although up close it's not that pro looking.

you can't get enough of diy-ing can't you. you're a diy *****, i swear bro!

i could kinda tell though it wasn't done professionally, or that it's not stock just from the pics. but that's just me. i think it's a good idea though.

Yeah, it's not really flat with the car, and you can see the edges sticking up. From a few feet away, it's hard to tell.

I like it. Is there a way to take off just the black ring to paint it? I think I'm gonna try this out tomorrow, nice DIY gearbox.

Oh n/m I figured it out... its just two bolts in the back and the ring is rubber so its easy to take out. But the thing is, after I paint it won't it chip due to the material I'm working on? I guess I'll just try it, it's not like I got anything to lose lol.

eni9ma, how come yours looks so good? I couldn't get the edges very well and it came out a little sloppy. Oh well, good for now. You removed yours, so maybe that's why.

Yea I removed mines and I painted it with Dupli-Color Spray paint (T191 Ultra Silver Mcc : 11 oz, the big cans that say Truck, Van & SUV *Its a great match for our SSM color*). I first used adhesion promoter, then primer, then paint, and last clear coat. I don't think you need to do all that, but I had it lying around so I thought I would use it. In the end it came out pretty good, it’s just that you need to be careful when putting the ring back into the hole after painting.

Mine's black (or it was anyway). I'm having it shaved anyway, so it doesn't matter much anymore. O, and I can't see the pic, guess cause I'm on 56k, but sounds like a good idea for those that don't have a black car.
