Rep Power: 293 i hit a car....PICS *56K warning*
i'm such an ***, i was backing up and there was a car parked right behind me, I KNEW THE CAR WAS THERE from before hand, but forgot all about it, and then, SMACK, right into its passenger door.
i was at my local car audio shop, the owner of the car (a late 80's prelude) was inside the shop, i got out, and was wanting to hit my head up against the wall. the dude was cool though, he was like "dont worry about it man, calm down" (i was swearing any obsenity i can think of). i gave him all my info (not going through insurance though) and now i'm waiting for a reply from him on what the damage is, there was a nice dent in his door, but he was going to paint it soon (his car is all different colors), maybe it wont be bad.
my car is in bad shape, definately need a new bumper, its cracked. the drivers side tail light chipped a little, and might be screwed up (looked like it was pushed in a little). i didnt take a picture because i was pissed, i'll have some tomorrow.
anyone know what a late 80's prelude passenger door might cost to fix?
i'm glad it was just a car, and not a kid or something, my careless way today could have been worse.

Rep Power: 293 i called the dude up and asked if he got an estimate or something yet, he didnt. i mentioned to him though that since he was at the car audio shop, that i would buy him something from there to cover the charges, i have some credit at the shop so i can use that and add some more. he said that sounds good but that he would check with his dad first.
does that sound alright to you guys? i just shot out an idea and he seemed to like it.

Rep Power: 304 i doubt it. it doesn't sound too awfully bad. if its not creased, then it should be fairly cheap to pop out. if its creased, it may be cheaper to just buy a door and replace it. depending on where you go. i'd say no more than 250-300 at most though. good luck on all that ish.

Rep Power: 293 cool, i hope its some where in the neighborhood of $250-300, i can handle that, if it turns out to be $1500, i'm definately gonna get an *** whooping from me father (say bye bye civic, hello walking).
i'll have pics of my car tomorrow, mine looks so bad compared to the lude, i felt like punching myself.
oh well, shouldnt keep dwelling on it, off to bed (i hope).
btw, what do you mean by creased?

Rep Power: 293 i got the pics (see first post), but i looked behind the bumper, and it doesnt look like there is any other damage, if i'm lucky, i'll just need a new bumper (again) and a drivers tail light.
but i'm not worried about my car, i need to know what that dudes car will cost, he seemed cool, hope he stays that way.

Rep Power: 0 Man that sucks, too bad all it didnt do was scuff the bumper up, you could buff that out, but it cracked it, so it will need to be repaired or replaced.
Hope it all works out.

Rep Power: 293 i'm getting my bumper fixed no problem, i'm just worried about what that dudes car is gonna cost me.
he told me that his "buddy" that works at a shop quoted him $725 for a new door skin and some other stuff, but when i asked him to come up with the quote on paper, he said something under his breath, i couldnt hear it, but then said "well i'll get some quotes from some local places for you". i have a feeling that he's trying to get something extra out of me. i have some friends that said he will help me out with it, if this guy tries to rip me off.
i saw a few places on the net that sell unpainted bumpers for our cars for $175, what do you think a reputable place will paint it for? $150?
also, thanks for the info 4bangin, i'll think about it.
and if you are seeing scratches and stuff on my car, its probably from that tornado in may 2003, messed up my car a little, little dings and scratches all over the place. i got the insurance money for it, but my car sits outside all the time, its bound to get messed up again, i'll do a full repaint when it really gets messed up.

Rep Power: 304 also, you kind of have to use the quotes he gives you. cause he gets to select who fixes it. just to make sure he fixes it though, and doesn't rip you off, write the check to him and the body shop. that way he has to get it fixed. also, door skins for that car aren't that much ($750) plus its unpainted. i'm betting you can score a skin for around $150 or less, depending on where you get it. maybe cheaper at a junk yard. find one in a junk yard, and have it primed, looks like you bought a new door.

Rep Power: 292 Maybe you could buy a new door from a salvage yard.

Or go with him to get estimates to just get body work done with no paint.
And then buy yourself a different rear skirt.

Rep Power: 293 well, i settled it with the dude, he got a few estimates, and the total was about $600 on all estimates, so i bought him an amp, subs, and a box (even helped him install it). i made a document that stated that the subs, amp and box were the payment for the damage, and i had a witness sign it (one of the guys from the shop).
now for my car, i found unpainted stock bumpers online for $175, and i can probably get a good deal on paint from a guy the audio shop owner knows, but i'm gonna look into buying one from ebay or something (hopefully there is someone out there who got a kit that is wanting to part out with a stock, painted bumper).
i dont want a kit, if i get some new rear bumper thats a part of a kit, i'm gonna have to get the sides, then the front, and its gonna look odd without a drop, so atleast some springs, and then some wheels because stock hubbies look wierd, and etc. forget that, rather just keep the look of the car stock.

Rep Power: 293 looks like i'm getting a factory bumper for $200 painted, so i'm happy about that. my tail light has a small piece chipped off of it, but i'll just super glue that back on.
its finally all over, i'm getting my car fixed, and the other dude is happy with his caved in door and beats, win win situation i guess.
