Exclamation need your help please

hey all i'm new to the site but thought you could help me out...

i'm almost 18 and i told my dad the other day that i wanted to buy a civic and fix it up...
then i shrunk back in fear of his wrath...not really but he was really cool about it

now for the kicker: i need to know what year and engine type would be the best to do this with (i have a lot
of performance/ice stuff in mind + all 'o the usual graphic mods )

i'm looking for feedback on what body styles look better when their done (which year looks better)
as well as which engine type (obviously 5-speed) but how many liters, ect.

thanks

i can probably afford anywhere between a '93-'96 or maybe 97
(so i can still have some money to put into mods)

this forum is mainly about 01+ civics. If you're limited on funds, I would recommend getting a 93-97 civic which ever body you like at the cheepest price you can get it for. Don't worry about mileage, look at the condition of the body. Then drop some more $ into a new engine. The start up on other aspects of the car. Again it all depends on how much $ you have to spend. Roughly you should be about to pick up an older used civic for $3-6k then drop an engine in it for another $1-3k depending on which engine/ mods you choose.

ya i knew that this board was mainly about 01+ civics but i figured you guys would have a lot more experience with the older civics as well, whether just from looking at them or actually having one previously

thanks for the advice though...i wasn't sure how much money to plan to spend on the engine once i bought the car

EG Hatch, B18C1 or C5, put it in, turn it on and go. Screw show, it doesn't get you anywhere.

Kloverz has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Get a Hatch back like a 93 slap in a Type R motor, and as for the look its all on you if you like a clean look or a aggressive look.

I think the 95 coupes are sweet. You got one of those, drop it with 17's and it looks good. Alot of potential for engine swaps also.

Dont know if it helped but just throwing in imput.

Go with a b18c5, i would think that would be the best if affordable.

Available

B-series
B16B - JDM CTR 180 HP
B16A- JDM SiR II
B16A3 (i think?) - 99/00 Si 160HP
B18C1- GSR 170 HP
B18C5- US ITR 195 HP
B18C- JDM ITR 210 HP
B18B1- Integra LS, no VTEC, best option for turbo

H22A - fits, but heavy as hell, not ideal for anything but a drag car.

The K-series kit just came out, but its expensive as hell and requires some serious modifying.

the b18c5 is the most expensive i've seen out of the ones boiler listed...right behind that is the h22a (which i wasn't even considering)

the b16a's are the cheapest...but still a little over budget
i could save....or probably find one locally cheap do you think?

So get a D16Y8 (6th gen EX) or Z6 (5th gen EX/Si), and turbo the ****. There's **** loads of parts for them. If you can't afford the engine, don't forget the extra **** you need for a swap. I'd probably figure 5500-6000 to get a B-series in the car and running.

D-series come a dime a dozen. Buy the right car, it'll just come with it. Doing a B-series swap then starting to work on it is going to cost you FAR more than a Turbo-D.
OR...
Don't stretch yourself at all, just buy the car, get some light 15s and a decient suspension and drive it. Its probably better that way anyways. Its a lot easier to do something stupid and kill yourself with a lot of horsepower anyways.
