Smoked tailights done!
I finished smoking my taillights this past weekend, it was incredibly easy.
short DIY
1. buy 2 cans of spray on window tint for model cars from www.testors.com
2. remove tails from car
3. clean tails well, with alcohol or another solvent to remove any oils.
4. spray on thin coats of paint until the desired darkness is achieved.
see, it's that easy. Also just to make it clear, many people have complained about the safety of alteezas and how they reduce brakelight visibility. Well since I did not want to do this to my stock tails just in case i messed up I used my alteezas, and it actually IMPROVED the visibility of my brakelights, just as bright as stock. The tint eliminates the glare from the chrome and makes the lights stand out more. Tell me what you think

Twilight, those tails look sick! I wouldn't have thought of doing that.

clownprince, thanks! It took a couple coats and a leap of faith at the time. After the first winter, they were a little eaten away by salt, so I had to put a second and third layer last Spring. Unfortunately, it made them a little darker than stock, but I always get second looks when people see it because it's just different enough not to be stock or ricey lol

I got nothing but complements from people about them.

By the way, when I did mine, I applied a couple coats of clear coat to the lights, just to give it a little protection. The salt on roads really does a number on the paint if you don't protect it well enough.

I just used a basic Testors clear coat. I made sure the second time to put enough coats that the surface turned glossy - my first attempt left the lights with a slightly abrasive surface. My technique was do a coat, let it dry - do a coat, let it dry - and so and and so on.

He didn't just get the CF or Black altezzas because those are just cotdamn ugly. I was about to do the same exact thing with my altezzas, but I really don't want any police trouble cuz I'm breaking the law every now and then. Don't need to catch attention to myself. So I just sold them to a friend. Definitely nice job though.
there's no way this mod could attract the attention of the police. Dont you see those mustangs and explorer drivin around all the time with tail light and head light covers that are all back? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2461799018
