valve cover damage --> replacement
valve cover damage --> replacement
this is pretty wierd but kinda minor. still id like to get to the bottom of it
NOTE: when i say valve cover, i mean the wire cover that says HONDA VTEC on it, not the head gasket seal.
i painted my valve cover about 3 weeks ago red with gold lettering (a arts/crafts paint pen works wonders with the letters). looks awsome, sorry dont got pics yet, i will. anyways, today i open up my hood to see how the regular paint is holdin up (was contemplating high temp paint).
when i see my valve cover, there are scratches and scrapes all around it, especially in the upper left corner, where the scrapes go right through the 4 coats of red paint and actually is down past the surface of the black plastic, as if someone took my valve cover out and scraped the edge of the cover along a concrete surface. im pretty stumped on how this happened. my car is brand new, '04 civic coupe, had it for about 2.5 months, NEVER had it broken in to, NEVER had it messed around, certainly didnt do this myself. what the heck is goin on?!?!?!?!
could there be like little bugs that scrape plastic livin in my engine? or like a lizard or rat? (ive had a dead rat wind up hangin from one of the exhaust pipes on my dad's '97 camry, dang it smelled)
ive ruled out the possibility of any contact between the insdide of the hood and the valve cover, maybe its engine rocking and rubbing against something?
anyways with this damage, i wanna get a new valve cover. do i just go to honda? how much? any aftermarket ones with different designs?
thanks

$5.17. Just buy another one. You could try sanding it down and re-doing it if its not real bad, or just try it again.
