Smile I'm Finally Buying a "Beater"

There are so many things I want to do to the 2K1 and the hatch, but now the one thing I DON'T want to do is drive them when it's snowing or when I'm hauling my 2 big dogs around (you know on Bugs Bunny when that witch, Witch Hazel, takes off and leaves a bunch of hairpins and $hit - that's what the interior of my 2K1 looks like except it's dog hair )

This evening I will be picking up the ultimate retired person's car, a 1990 Olds Eighty Eight Royale. Actually, it is sportier than it sounds - 2 door coupe with aluminum wheels, gauge package, 3.8 V-6 with 165 horsepower & 220 ft/lbs torque with a weight of 3,400 lbs, and NO CHROME lol.

Courtesy of www.greghome.com and his copyrighted page, here is a shot of the black car that he owned. Mine is exactly like this except it is burgundy in color:

133K miles and I'm getting it from (what else???) a RETIRED school teacher, who was the second owner.

Uh... you're buying a RWD care for winter so you can drive your FWD car in the summer? That's a little backwards, don't you think? Still a cool and fun car though.

The drivetrain is smooth -- the engine has fresh plugs & air filter. Two of the main things that usually crap out on these GM cars after 100K, the starter & alternator, already died on the previous owner and were replaced by her in the previous 2 years. (I'm rollin' the dice on the tranny ).

The only thing I really want to do is put some nice KYB gas struts & 225/60 Falken tires on it, but NO, the money goes into the HONDAS! Gotta keep telling myself "It's just a beater! Don't spend $$ unless something breaks or you are doing preventive maintenance!"

...hope to get some pics up this weekend. I'm thinking about a thread where people could play 'how much would YOU pay to have this car as your 'extra' or 'beater' ? Then once people put in their guess I would say how much I actually paid and the winner could receive the adulation and glory of millions of people

or not lol
