I-95 + hydroplane = PICS! ***UPDATE***8/15/03
OKAY!
Not Totaled! but the damage is $7700...DAYUM!!!!!!!
well i left it at AUTO MIAMI, and i sould be able to pick it up in 2 to 3 weeks!
Im gonna be doing a lot of hitch-hiking in the mean time...
So sorry EXTREME the Camber Kit stays on... i got a reall doos hook up on that! the SPC rear cmaber kit, and the control arms for $75...hehehe
ill take pics and keep posting them, while the car is in the shop!
ill keep you guys informed!
well...
this morning the weather was bad...(tropical depression)
and i decided to go surfing before work @ 8:30am since the waves were supposed to be good!
I left my house at about 5:304-5:45am...
and it was not raining that bad.
When I got onto I-95, and almost at the exit of South Beach(I-95 runs parallel to DOWNTOWN Miami on a huge overpass), there was this huge puddle, that stretched the whole width of I-95, and maybe about 20ft wide. I was on the right hand lane...which was the deepest, and all I knew from there was that there was a ton of water on my windshield, and that i was spinning!
The first spin i did was very slow, and it took me all the way from the right lane, to the left lane. After the impact i supn a couple of more times crashing the backend, again, and again.
I tried to correct, and pump the brake...everything they say to do...i could have probably been worse!
It was only the back end...THATS IT! I was surprised!
I AM OKAY! thanks to everyone for your concern!
I was not speeding, I was going about 60mph, and it was hardly raining. The puddle was just hidden by the reflection of the city lights, and street lights.
I don't know how fast i was going when I hit the wall, probably about 20mph....kinda like going in reverse and hitting a wall. My neck is okay!
This accident happened early, so thank God that there was no one on I-95. Some people saw me, but as good "Miami-ans" they just drove away!
Afterwards I just drove my car home just like that!
AND I GOT TO WORK ON TIME! 8:30 BABY!
I'm Okay, but my "CAR MORAL" is running on empty.
I will take my car to the insurance guy tomorrow...see what he says!
The frame is bent, and I do have stress factors on the roof, and quarter-panel.
I'll let you guys know what happens tomorrow!
Once again, Thanks for your concerns.
And Please wear your seatbelt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
(I was wearing mine... IT DID A GREAT JOB)

Those tires look like AVS ES100s??? Oh Damn... those are supposed to be some of the most hydroplane resistant tires in existance. Must have been deep enough to grab the rim or something... I hardly ever feel rain on those tires.... seems like driving on dry.
Correct me if I'm not right, but I was always told if you lose it, NEVER touch the brakes, it makes it worse... put your foot on the gas. So when you regain traction, you power your way out of it. It makes logical sense, with nothing keeping the tires spinning, if you have no traction, the tires just stop spinning, then it doesn't matter if you get traction back, you've got no rotation and the car's momentum is just going to pull you.

guys...
i have GEICO.
what happens if it is totaled and i have $10,000 left to pay off???
(oh yeah...i had just rotated my tires, cause i chewed the front ones up before the camber kit...so i put the new ones on the fron...thats why the back tires look kinda bald)

they will pay it off i believe and give you back the remaining of what the car is worth if you have full coverage...i remember i had a bug. Totaled it. They payed off the car and gave us back what the car's value was. Since we got a deal at the dealership.....we actually made a couple Gs on it =)

Damn, hope the adjuster doesn't make note of your rear tires, then. . . .sounds like the hydroplaning would have been far easier to recover from had those rear tires not been so . . . . "iffy". If your back end swung around when you lost traction, I'd be willing to bet the lack of good tread on them had something to do with that.

Either way, glad you're okay. If you want better traction, get a Subbie. . . like I am.

thats sucks man but uh looks like you did a sweet Dynamat install though. not only did the rear get whacked but i think your UB kit might not anymore either, sorry.
ok glad to hear you are ok.....
now....before you go to your insurance guy, makes sure that you are not below your warning tread on your tires.....if you are and still have your steelies...PUT THEM ON!!!...if the tread is good on them.....
and good luck with your insurance......
Sorry about the car bro.....

ok, well i got geico, and fully covered, and when i wrecked my toyota, all they did was give me the value of the car. i still owed 8k on it, and the bb value barely covered what i owed...so the insurance will NOT pay you and pay off your loan. sorry to tell ya that. i wish thats the way it worked. hopefully you didn't have too many miles on your ride, so that will increase the value....but be prepared to get shafted from GEICO. they SUCK!!!!!!
