The Rev/Speed Meter is a monitoring instrument designed to measure acceleration, braking, vehicle speed, travel distance, battery voltage, & cornering load with the optional g-sensor. It also has a built-in stop watch that can accurately record quarter-mile elapsed times, time to speed elapsed times, as well as other user-defined elapsed time measurements.. Best of all, this unit's peak hold function will capture all measured values (1 - Timing of Travel Distance - 0-100m / 0-200m / 0-400m & 2 - Timing of Acceleration Times - 0-100km/h / 0-200km/h / 0-300km/h). The top five times are permanently stored. The unit will calculate your horsepower. There are outputs for engine RPM & vehicle speed. This can be used to activate external relays such as Nitrous Systems, Shift Lights, etc. Stopwatch functions can accurately record quarter-mile elapsed times, 0-60mph and 0-100mph elapsed times, as well as other user-defined elapsed time measurements.

They're useful for measuring 1/4 mile times, tracking shift points in the power band, etc. . . . and, indeed. . .the tach feature is VERY useful if you don't have one, stock.
FYI: For anyone looking to buy one, I've posted a DIY in the Tech forum on how to install them.
