D3 Double X Brace: will it fit?

Just saw that on clubrsx...

A Double X-Brace from D3:

The other braces for RSX or EP3 fit on our civic, so what about this one? Will the 2 others mounting point of this one also fit on a civic? It seems to be hard to install... but I guess it's good like this, if you want to brace it have to be tight!

Thanks, I e-mail the guy for more info.

Pictures from clubrsx seem to be out... here another picture of the brace:

It's a bit like 2 Neuspeed X-brace welded together. The price seems to be good (185$).

But, I guess it's overkill for a street car... the Neuspeed or Tanabe brace should be enough...

YES! This will fit the EM2 Chassis!! Honda Tuning is using this same component on their racecar and street car!!! Also look for a write up on it in December issue. They really liked it.

From D3 website:

Tested on the track we have been able to greatly decrease understeer, virtually eliminate wheel hop, vastly improve steering response, and increase cornering speeds.

If the front is more rigid, it usually induce more understeer... no???

Material & Build: 304 Stainless Steel Tig Welded

So what's the actual weight if this big boy?

I am very interested in this brace... but maybe too hardcore for a daily-street-driven car!

I was thinking of getting this too. But ya One would think it would cuase a little more push if it was stiffer. Maybe it keeps the flex out of the issue keeping the tires more planted in the corner. One day I will get one.....just gotta get my clutch first.

The weight is 8 lbs.

The reason for the decrease in understeer is because the bar reduces flex between the front cross member & chassis. The EM2 uses an engine cradle that is held in by a couple of large bolts. The Double X-Brace increases the coverage and simulates additional mounting points for the engine cradle. Under load there is a lot of flex on the EM2 chassis. When the chassis is allowed to flex it makes it almost impossible to properly tune the suspension. The chassis acts as an undamped spring! When you increase torsional stiffness you now direct the previously wasted energy to proper suspension locations. Essentially it allows the suspension to do its original job. Which gets back to your original question. By reducing flex in the front you will increase traction thus decreasing understeer! A lot of people say the vehicle becomes very nimble and responsive.

More and more interesting!!!

How much clearance do we loose with this bar? (or how low is it sitting underneath the car?) Since the bar is 1" thick the bar I guess the brace is hanging at max 1.5" from the chassis?

Does it scrape over speed bump?

yes.... like when im on the straight.. before w/o the brace when i was crusing at 80mph i felt very instable and with this brace its very tight.. the steering is tight... when going into a turn its like a ferrari man.. it goes in and out w/ pleasure ...before when i used to pull hard w/ my car through a corner @ 40mph i had lots of tire squeek.. now that is very minimal

Also be shure u have time to install the brace... its is a definite bitch to put on.... heres my recommend way to install it
go from the 2 front LCA Bolts
to the 2 subframe bolts and
lastly to the 4 small rear framerail bolts

for the frame rail bolts if u cant get it aligned use a screwdriver to align the mount while u screw in the other bolt...

if u install the LCA bolts last u will have a hard time screwing the bolt back in... its near impossible... because the brace is very tight and if u dont have flexibility to work it the bolt will go in angled and push the metal up instead of screwing in and when that happenes u have to clamp the metal back together so it will align again...

i heard it was a b!tch to put in...unless u have a hoist, or an access to a hoist, i wouldn't suggest trying this with just floor jacks...

hasn't anyone try to install a strut bar and it just doesn't ******* fit? it's the most frustrating thing in the world!!!

Re: D3 Double X Brace: will it fit?

i think im gonna have to upgrade to this from my tanabe one...the tanabe one works wonders too...but if i do get it ill prolly do some more reinforcement to it by boxing off the bars like the tanabe one

EM2/ES1(sedan)/EP3/RSX share the same chassis (or very similar) so it will fit!
