It depends. Do you want a suspension setup that you can adjust? Don't get sleeved coilovers, but true coilovers. Coilovers sometimes can give a little harsher ride than aftermarket springs and shocks. It depends on what you want. I personally am going for shocks and springs when they come out. I don't want to have to deal with adjusting coilovers and getting an alignment when you do. That is my preference tho. I can see how true coilovers are good.

lowering spring: set height, cheap, better ride then sleeved coilovers.
sleeved coilovers: adjustable height. not as cheap as lowering springs but still much cheaper then true coilovers. tend to have a worser ride then lowering springs
true coilovers: adjustable height(sometimes adjustable damper/spring rate). usually very expensive. very good ride.

I originally had eibach sportlines on my ex coupe- rode good everyway, looked too high IMO. Now I have GC coilovers-rides ok on smooth roads(freeway), bumpy on uneven roads(potholes, most streets). But looks sic because its now slammed. All 4 wheels tucked in fender about 1/4 ". BTW, I also cut the lower front strut perch off to get that low. Rear wheels have -3 degrees camber(need camber kit), Front is -1.1 degrees(ok, I think). THe GC's handle alot better.

For me since I autocross I'd rather stick with springs/aftermarket shock setup. It requires less maintenance and is cheaper if you add in alignment for each time you raise or lower the car. I stick with 1 height and get it aligned and boom you got a good setup.
That's my opinion since I used to contemplating goin with the coilover setup. Also it rains quite a bit in my area so cleaning and greasing the threaded part of the coilovers from rust doesn't sound fun to me
