macpherson strut

Sup guys..

i was looking around the forum and i read something about civics needing a camber kit on the rear because it is macpershon strut(not sure about spelling). But i thought macpherson strut was only the damping material, it has nothing to do with the camber of the car. Can you guys please give me more info on this?

Also, im planning to get the rs grill. i was wondering the grill needs to be painted. I know the altezza one needs to not not sure about rs.

thanks

The MacPherson struts are in the front. I don't see what just having MacPhearson struts have to do with needing a camber kit. A camber kit is needed when you lower the car - that is to keep the wheel/tire perpendicular to the road and not slanted inwards, causing uneven tire wear and altering the handling which can be good or bad depending on what you want to do. So if you're not lowering your car, there is no reason to worry about your camber.

The grilles don't need to be painted, but you can if you don't like how it looks plain black. Mine is not painted and I like it ok, although just painting the lip would look nice.

You don't need a camber kit, but if you lower your car an inch or more, to be on the safe side, you might want to get the rear camber kit.

eh just to clear things up..
we have mcpherson struts up front and double wishbone in back..mcpherson strut isnt the "dampening material" its the type of suspension we have. it's main characteristics is the control arm that connects to a tie rod which connects directly to the steering... when dropping the car, the camber on a mcpherson strut setup is hardly effected because of how it's designed so ya you really will never need the front camber kit
the rear however still uses the double wishbone setup and the camber is greatly effected(well as much as older model civics that is)

Unless you plan on dropping your car a lot (more then 1.5") with springs or coils i wouldn't even worry about the camber kit. All you need is a balance and an alignment.

I know that you think 2" isn't a low drop, but anything more than 1.25" is a big drop for me. I always suggest camber kits because they help save your tires no matter if you are dropped 1" or 3". For $25 just get a front camber kit if you are lowering alot.

You don't need your tires rebalanced if you lower. They should already be balanced. You just need an alignment.

when i had my alignment after i did my pro-kit (1" drop). they said my rear camber was off, but not a lot. the guy said if I rotate my tires regularly I'll never notice it.

i think 2" aint even low enought, and even with macpherson struts they will still be negative camber in the front but what like 1 degree, maybe people who think is 2" is hella low that cant drive a lower car
