Ground Control Installation Question (please help)

I am going to venture and install my ground controls myself. I read in the diy's that the front strut perch needs to be trimmed but in each DIY they dont show a good pic on exactly how much of the perch needs to be trimmed.. I was hoping that someone could help me out and either post or email me a pic of exactly how much was cut and how it is supposed to look with the coilover installed... Oh yeah I forgot to ask also is trimming the perch absolutely necessary ? I went to the SPC website to see their DIY and they did not trim the perch at all.. Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on that for me..Thanks In Advance...

Scribe a line around the base of the perch that is approximately 1" above the weld points that hold the perch to the shock. You could probably go a little lower but I would just recommend making sure that there is some of the perch base left. Be careful not to cut into the shock tube itself.

Cutting the perch is not ABSOLUTELY necessary but it definitely provides more room to make the height adjustments on your Ground Control sleeve coilovers.

If I had a picture I'd post it but I never took a shot when I did mine.

i never trimmed mine and have no complaints. I can see where it will be a little easier to adjust with them cut but I still don't think its worth the effort of cutting ...
maybe i'm just lazy I might cut them once I do my front koni install.

Thanks alot for the replies. So from what djmota says I think I will be ok seeing as I only am for now gonna drop 1.5 to 1.75" until I get koni's or tokico's.. So I think I should be fine.. Djmota what is the drop you are riding at.. Also to adjust is it still possible with out cutting..??? Thanks Again

ya you dont have to cut it. its only if you want your car pretty low. for a 1.75" drop, i think it should be fine.

i don't remember what stock hieght is. but i have about 1 inch wheel gap in the front with 17" wheels and 205-40-17 tires. I've had it lower. All you have to do is reach inside the perch and give it a spin, and since they are so wide there is enough room for the allen wrench too. Having wheels that have a big gap between spokes makes adjusting a breeze.

Just finished the install, I have a one finger gap all the way around, and I didnt cut the Spring perch after all...Its a little bouncy but you can barely notice it. I also followed the Ground control instruction and the how to's on this forum.. It made it alot easier with those.. I love the way my car looks.. I cant believe what a big difference it makes...I used the PVC shower mat and have no squeeking at all... I need to resize the pics I took but I will post them as soon as I do.. Hope you like....

it'd be a better idea to cut it, about 3cm is enough. but you're done already, it's not a big deal
