Question on bumpstops
Question on bumpstops
I am having neuspeed sports put on my 01 coupe today. The instructions call for cutting the rear bump stops. The guy at the shop told me that cutting the bump stops would only make my struts wear out sooner and would not affect ride height. Is this true? Obviously, I would like the wheel gap to be as even as possible all the way around... Will not cutting the bump stops cause an uneven drop?
Cutting the bump stops will not affect the drop. the purpose is to keep you from bottoming out so much. it gives the shock a little more travel. but yes it will make your shock wear quicker. IMO when you get new springs you should get the konis. the stock suck. i blew mine two weeks after i put mine on.

Honestly if you don't cut the bumpstops you will most likely end up with a very bouncy ride. Depending on how low you go the bumpstop may need to be cut in order for the strut to retrect as far as it needs to.
Yeah, not bouncy, more like bumpy...you'll bottom out alot easier when you hit bumps, potholes, etc. I noticed a difference before and after...I put my springs on without trimming them and it was very bumpy, then I trimmed them, and I noticed a difference when I hit bumps.

ya true, cause as you said, you'll be riding on your bumpstops. but were talking about a 1.75" drop here... its not low enough so that you'll be hitting your bumpstop on every little crack/rock on the road. its going to take some hard hits for it to compress that far.

Bubbling this up..
For those who trimmed your front bumpstops, what did you use to hold them up on top of the strut piston? I trimmed mine, but they dont stay up on top. I assume its fine, but the dust cover isnt functional anymore since it doesnt cover the piston area. Thanks for any replies!

Yeah.. but was the most recent bumpstop thread I could find without starting a new thread.
I'm thinking of just taking some zip ties and zip them up top... what do ya think? Anybody?
