you must be talking about the bumpstop washer that friction held. It is a washer that wedged into the top part of the shaft. hold the strut upside down and a take a hammer and gently tap it out. Just do not scratch the shaft and you should be fine.

Okay, maybe you are not. You are talking about the top of the shock body. You are trying to fit the sleeve over it. Are you suppose to remove that? That is what the bump stop stops on when you bottom out. IF you must take it out, you will have to wiggle it out. I think there are notches on the sides that hold it in place. I never down a GC install. Follow the instuctions, my repair manual is in the car and I'm at school working on an essay. The parking lot is so far away...

Ok I'm here to help. What piece r u trying to take off the washer that holds the bump stop or the cap thats on top of the shock body. If its the cap get a flat head screw driver and hammer and gently tap it off make sure turn the strut up side down before u do it. Besure not to mess up the cap and once its off put the g/c sleeve over it and put the cap back on and put it all back to gether. If you can't get it email me. My address is in my profile glad to help.
