Full suspension, or just the half????
I have a 2k1 2dr just like many of you out there. Ok, I bought 16 rota c8's with 205/45 and I want to lower the car. I looked on ebay to buy coilovers and they seem to be really really cheap. Is that bad? As well, I love handeling and I hate speding money (a common paradox). I wanted to get full suspension at sometime to have more fun out of the ol civ'. Would you guys please recommend any setups, their prices, adn how much labor there is. I looked on the car and it seems that there is the steering column connected to the shocks? Anyways, what is the cheapest price for the stuff. Oh how much is TIEN?
Thanks,
Edward L.

teins are a little over a grand. ebay coils are not the way to go, unless you get new struts, which will make them a little better, but they will never be as good as the teins, or konis + ground controls.

if you want good handling then go w/ either Eibach or Neuspeed then Get a set of Konis then Progress Sway bars set (I'm not sure if the Progress Sway Bars set come w/ the lowering spring).....TEIN is about $1200 last time i heard
My suspension set up is: Koni Yellows w/ Eibach Pro-Kit and Type-S sway bar rear and stock sway bar front..it handles pretty good, but i wish i had the progress sway bars set
Koni Yellows $525 shipped
Eibach Pro-kit $165 shipped
RSX Type-S Sway Bar $82 shipped
Labor $ FREE
------------------------------------------
Total : $772

go with teins ... thats what i have on my 2k1 .. it is the best investment that i have ever made .. ! this is the third time that i have change my suspension set up . and this is soo far the best one !! just save a lil and get u some tein ss or tein flex..
This will be my fourth. Not including stock, eibachw/ stock shocks, NEX coilovers, Weapon-R circuit pro/ stock shocks, and soon to be Tein Flex. Damn dock strikes. Who knows, my coils are probably there, they just have to be inventoried and shipped out.... So depressing...

As for choice of coilovers and full-coilovers, the answer is: You get what you pay for.

Basically, the only difference between the coils are the Tein are stiffer in the rear(10 kg instead of the JIC 9 kg), The front for the JIC is inverted monotube(gives it a smoother ride, and is suppose to be more stable), the number of dampening adjustments, and i guess all that is left is the brand(tuning and experience) and the colors. Tein is known for being stiff(does not look bouncy from the outside, hella bouncy in the inside) and for circuit use. The JIC are too, but the Flex and the FLT-A2 are designed for American roads. Listen to the people with the SS. The Flex is just a beefer version of the SS(true full coil set-up: no stock parts needed).

The Nex are setup like the JIC FLT-A2, like I said ^^. The fronts are inverted monotube. I was able to drop the car until my exhaust touched the floor in the rear. As for the front you will need a camber kit to tuck the tires in the well. Simpkin(i think that is how you spell his name) has a review on the coils. As for the handling, the coils felt great on the street, the only bad thing is that the fronts were too stiff(10kg) and the rear were 6kg. This does not correct for the understeer, but then again I did not have my rear strut bar at the time and a stiffer sway bar would have helped. I tell you one thing, the NEX coils really loosened the rear a lot. I put my Eibachs back in afterwards and the handle was never the same. I would have to have my car balanced at all four corners. I should do that and get a full roll cage, but then that impedes on my bodykit. Too many decisions. The NEX are cheap, but only height adjustable. It is a well matched set. My front left mounting perch would not lock in place and would rotate on turns instead of the whole coil. I could never tighten them enough. The most i could get with the locking tool(which I still have) was 100 ft/lbs. You need about 130 ft/lbs to lock it. The feel of the wheel was easy and precise. I had to get use to my car again because of the responsiveness. Something you will not feel with the Tein SS. The only problem besides the perch was the bushing on the top right pillowball mount. It wiggled out but nothing came about because of it. Other than that, the Coils were great.
Now that I am getting the Tein Flex(soon, it is the end of the month - fingers crossed), the next on my list are the SPC lower arm (polished) and the Progress sway(SPC are to match the polished tie bar from Progress). I should get a front one too. Oh yeah, with the NEX, the front sway is not strong enough, whenever I made a sharp turn, the inside wheel would get off the ground and spin. well, i guess that would have to be because of the short travel.
For people that know a shop, will we be able to mount RSX front Strut bars by drilling the two strut mounting holes and the four on the firewall? My girlfriend has an Accord four-cyl and her car is hella stiff because of the two cross bars. The next best step will be roll bars. Just keeping the options open and my car fo sho!

eh, sounds good enough for me. i'm sure its better then my neuspeed on stock setup. i dont really like the tein ss since it doesnt drop low enough. the flex is just way too expensive.
