Is it really easy to tell once your shocks are blown? or do I have to get them checked?

when they don't provide any more damping - push down on the car and it bounces a lot, that's when you know they're blown

I just learned that same thing today, if the shocks are blown then the car should be stiff, as to say not bouncy when you rock it. If it stops when you push quickly then they ok, but if they keep on rocking then you have had too much sex in your car.

or if they are leaking fluid, or making a really bad clunking noise when you hit bumps.

If you hit a bump and it bounces more then it used to then you have blown shocks. If your car is dropped they will blow fater than usual.
