General questions about lowering the ride????
What all must be done to drop your car, say an inch or so? I asked a mechanic once while just in the store and he gave me an outrageous price. I was just wondering what is the normal price for such a task. I also wanted to know what all MUST be purchased? Do you just need the springs or what?
Thanks peeps

why an inch??? you probably cant tell your car is lowered with that drop...
theres a couple different ways to drop your car... there are a few more but highly suggest you not do it that way so i wont talk about it.
1) springs $100-200
2) sleeved coilovers($100-320)/true coilovers($800-1600)
these two things are the things that actually lower your car
then theres also aftermarket shocks because your oem shocks weren't designed to be used with a drop. this is give you a better ride. depending on your drop, your oem shocks will blow faster so its better to replace them when you get the springs/coilovers. about 500 for all 4
then theres a camber kit. this is used to adjust the camber of your tires in order to get a correct alignment. cause when you drop your car your the top of your tires will tilt inward wearing out the insides of the tire faster. the lower the drop, the more your cambers off. about $150-200
you could try installing it yourself using the diys or you could get it done by a shop for around $70-120
please search for specific information. the FAQ on top of the suspension forum is a start

I appreciate the help, from your point of view what would be the most reasonable, but also safe way to lower my car. I was just using a inch as an example because I don't want my car dragging the ground! know what i mean. I like the low look but not too low. Could you explain the springs, coilovers and true coilovers a little more in depth. Does these have anything to do with the actual ride of the car. I assume the true coilovers are the best because of the price, is this true?

if you dont want your car dragging i would recommend a neuspeed sports. i have them and i dont have to worry about scrapping. its low enough to kinda tell that its dropped yet you dont have to worry too much about dips and such.
read.. suspension FAQ that might help...
i'll try to explain it as best i can...
stock: you have your springs and you have your shock. the springs give your car the height that it has. the shocks absorb the rocks and bumps giving a smoother ride.
you could replace the stock springs with either 1) lowering springs or 2) sleeved coilovers. lowering springs are what they're called, they are springs that lower your car. sleeved coilovers are springs but with an adjustable bottom perch(the thing the spring rests on). you turn it up or down to get a higher or lower drop. the ride on springs is usually better then the ride on sleeved coilovers.
truecoilovers: yes these are the best. they are both spring/coilover and shocks in one. they come with an adjustable bottom perch thats attached to the shock that alows you to adjust the height. unlike lowering springs/sleeved coilovers they some with the shock, one of the main reasons why they are much more expensive. but if you think about it its not that much more because sleeved coilovers + aftermarket shocks cost about $800-1000.
btw, when most people say coilovers they are talking about the sleeved kind. i'll try to get pictures later when i get home...
