Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
I'm looking for a strut and coilover kit for my 2003 honda civic ex coupe. I've looked into Tien and i'm leaning towards the Street Basis Z and Street Advance Z. Any opinions on those or other suggestions? I need to purchase soon, my rear struts are almost gone lol
Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
I’m going with Raceland. My brother got them on his 7th gen and he loved them. They’re super affordable and pretty darn good quality. Great customer service I hear.
Not sure if you are looking for budget Coilovers. If you’re looking for big name, Tien sounds good.

Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
As far as I know Raceland makes two models for 7th gen civics (I’ve been looking so I’m pretty sure) and both are height adjustable but not damper adjustable.
Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
I don’t think so. Really I’m a newbie too 😂
I’ve yet to install mine (just ordered), but I got the model that allows 1-3 inches of drop. The other model ($40 more) allows 2-4 inches of drop (a little too much for me). But I think it’s a constant spring rate.

Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
Haha, fair enough man. I'm really leaning towards the Honda Civic EM2 Classic Coilovers (2001-2005). $399. I was about to settle for OEM one that run $300 and don't allow for lowering so, this would definitely a better option. I also don't want to lower my car that much either, I'm going to be getting new rims and tires soon(bigger but not crazy) So I think have 1-3 inches of play will give me the option to set it up properly.
Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
From what I know of them, Raceland just does a good job of making really good quality budget Coilovers. They’re $400. Good handling and lowering aspects
They’re not Tien or FortuneAutos, but if that’s all you’re looking for, I’d recommend them.

2001 LX coupe. But I plan to swap the engine to a JDM V-tec with less than 50k miles.
Same here. Gonna put 16” wheels on it and drop it just a tad on the Raceland classics.

Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
oh nice! I so badly want to throw a v-tec in my civic as well. I only have 125,000 miles on the original engine though so I want to ride it out longer. Thats why I'm having fun with suspension, exhaust, wheels, air intake, and whatever else i can afford haha.
Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
Good idea. Mine has 300,000 but it’s still running okay but with some obvious power problems. The JDM engine itself is $550 but then I’ll replace everything while it’s out and on a jack. So it will be around $1000 for everything.
But that will be later on.

Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
You might as well just rebuild what you have then. Before you know it, you're gonna drop $2000 on a $1000 car.
Just to clarify, I assume you're meaning $1000 to swap the engine (which is still low-end in my opinion, but that's besides the point). That, plus coils, plus other assorted things, you'll be a bunch into a stock car with coilovers.
I'd budget closer to $1500 for the engine swap. You can get an integra or older civic (way better platforms) for that much. I'm not suggesting you don't invest in that car, but from the perspective of someone your age, there are cars with better budget performance than a 7th gen civic.

Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
I've heard more bad than good with racelands, so I never even gave them the chance. Had a really good experience with Tein Super Street coilovers (Street Advance are the updated version), and those stuck on my car for 12 years (early 05-nov 17) . Were actually on the car when I donated her. Just my 2 cents
Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
My brother did the exact same swap for about a grand. I understand that I need to be careful to not waste my money. It’s definitely a budget car. I mostly just want a little fun out of a great-on-gas commuter.
Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
I'm not saying don't build a 7th gen, but they aren't budget build cars.
Re: Struts and Coilover Suggestions?
I just like Honda’s better. I connected with civics.
Other cars might be better options financially (and even performance-wise), but in the end, they speak to me. 😂 cheesy i know
