Racelands?
Racelands?
I'm new to Honda and new to doing mods. I'm a little older and the only things I ever upgraded in my vehicles were sound systems. I have a younger friend who is a very good source of information for me but he suggested I check out Raceland coilovers as an option. I want coilovers because I live in the Northeast and need the adaptability but can't justify dropping all that money after I dropped 1000 today already. Racelands are well within my budget but I'm concerned the quality isn't there. My friend hasn't done me wrong yet and he is all about quality but can anyone let me know if these coilovers are reliable or just a waste of money? I fear he might have just told me about them only due to price. And if they can get me through about 4 years, I think I would be happy with that.

Re: Racelands?
They're a complete waste of money, the price is the only positive point they have.
I'm a bit dumb founded by their popularity. Ebay coilover sleeves continue to be mocked and most people would never consider using them, but Racelands are no better. There was a fairly in depth discussion in the official suspension drop pictures thread a few days ago, where a number of us pointed out that we have heard first hand accounts of catastrophic failure.

I'm in the Philadelphia area which has some of the worst roads in the country! I think I'm going to try to find a better option but would appreciate some suggestions. I've been reading the forums and it seems like everyone always says spend the money on a good product but do I really need to spend $1500 and up? I'm not going to be driving like a nut or racing, just need a reliable coilover that won't break the bank! Anything reliable in the $750-$1k range?

Re: Racelands?
Progress CS-II sound like they'd be perfect for what you're looking for.
They're around $950, have a nice ride for a coilover, can go very low if you want them too, and they're manufactured by the same company that produces TRD products for Toyota, so quality is definitely there.

Re: Racelands?
progress is a great setup for under 1k.
i really wouldnt spend anything less than that.
like gearbox said, "there are two things you CANNOT cheap out on: brakes and suspension."

Re: Racelands?
Progress coilovers are definitely the most respected in that price range because of their overall quality and the fact they can be deconstructed for ease of replacing parts individually.
Or you can be like me and become a guinea pig with Tein's new Basis or Street Advance coilover kits which are $870 and $950 respectively. If your not looking to race or drive too hard (trust me, I'm not either), they should do the job. I'm going with the Tein Basis at the end of the month and I'll be sure to write up a review and a follow up being I'm probably the first one on this forum to get them.

Re: Racelands?
Well I started hunting for Progress CS II coilovers and haven't been able to locate any that would fit my 05 EX. Anyone have a link to make me feel really stupid?

Re: Racelands?
Megan are pretty good, the main complaint I've heard is that they don't go super low.
Re: Racelands?
I read a couple reviews of people who liked them... but I wanted to see what people on here wanted to say. The price is pretty good but again if they are cheap it's not.

Re: Racelands?
We're talking about daily driven cars here, not hardcore performance, and the empirical shock butt dyno reviews people give on Racelands, D2, K-Sport and our coilovers are pretty much useless at gauging performance unless the reviewer has tried multiple different coilovers on their car. I gauge, more than anything, the manufacturers reputation for quality. Megans is pretty decent, better than anyone else at that price point, they actually post their mediocre shock dynos, so I'll tip my hat to them and give my opinion that they are better than the standard chinese hellaflush attaining junk.

Re: Racelands?
AMR are better than KW for a number of reasons, including price, you can order them for $1200 new.
I know who is selling those coilovers, it's a bit funny. AMR are custom orders built by an independent shop in Seattle, so they take a bit of time to get. After waiting months to get them, the guy realized you couldn't slam your car with them and took them off.
