Bouncy Ride Normal?
Bouncy Ride Normal?
Hey - I just bought a 01 civic coupe EX and i noticed the ride is smooth but very bouncy. Is this normal for the stock suspension? If not could my shocks or springs be going? I also feel like it handles very loose could this be my sway bar links or something? I just want to know if this is normal or not and what I should have a mechanic check... Thanks.

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
If u have a 01 you most likely have blown suspension. Ur struts are toasted that's why it's bouncy
Get some tokico blues and that'll fix it

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
Have the mechanic check your ball joints and tie rod ends too if the suspension feels loose. I have an 01 and I had to replace mine cause they were worn. I also have a set of Tokico shocks and I love them!!!

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
my 02 was like that when i bought it new, very bouncy. its mainly the shocks to blame. for loose handling, check all the sway bar links, install a rear rsx sway bar, front neuspeed upper strut bar, and get better tires.

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
The struts are all blown, that's what's causing the bounce and poor handling. Simply replacing those will make a world of difference in performance and ride comfort.
Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
I'll have the mechanic check the Shocks, tie rods, sway bar links and ball joints.
The cars ride height is fine its not sagging, and it doesnt make a crashing sound when I hit bumps it actually seems to handle speed bumps very well and smotth.
My only concern is that I want to keep a comfortable ride so I dont know if I should add the sway bars and Tokico shocks etc. I wouldn't mind better handling but I want to keep the ride smooth for this car, the roads here are horrible. Let me know what changes i can make while keeping a nice smooth ride.

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
you will be expecting to spend at LEAST $200 on struts (lets say u get cheap *** monroe)
then you will either install it yourself or pay a shop $200-$400 (or more) to install it
and spend another $50-100 on an alignment.

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
$350 for a set of tokicos that last 5 yrs minimum, maybe 10 yrs, its a steal! my car is lowered and im coming up on 4 yrs with my tokicos and they are still like new. on a stock suspension they can last way longer. they will be firmer than stock without much bounce, which is the whole point. with nice tires, you wont even notice. shocks are supposed to dampen vibrations and keep the car moving without going up and down a bunch of times over every bump.
Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
Alright so I just got back from the shop (Meineke) took it there for an oil change and they did a inspection on the front and rear ends.
They told me I need a front ball joints, and new rear shocks. I want new shocks all around since they said the fronts are pretty bad but okay.
Like I said this car is not tricked out or anything just my daily driver to work for now. I want a nice ride, the tokios are out of my budget.
Has anone used these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-02...item4cf9213142
Please post links of cheap shocks that will work.

the tokicos are the cheapest (price wise) quality struts you'll find.
buy some some cheap crap (like the one in that link) and within a year, it'll blow and you'll have to spend MORE $$$ to replace them and MORE $$$ on labor.
so you gotta ask yourself the question: do it right the first time? or do it cheap now and pay more for it later when you have to replace it....again
if not tokico, at least KYB or even monroe (omg did i just advise monroe?)

Tokicos are cheap, they just aren't cheap compared to chinese garbage being sold on ebay.
KYB GR-2 is the least expensive quality strut available.

Swift springs are some of the best in the world, they offer a huge range of custom options and a lot of race teams love them. I'll be replacing the springs on my Tein-SS with swift springs in the relatively near future, I need higher spring rates than what Tein includes OTS.

Legit race teams, but outside of that spending $3000-5000 on coilovers isn't as uncommon as you would think among people who tune more expensive chassis. EVOs, Skylines, STis, M-class even S2000 owners tend to spend a lot more on their parts.

now your making me rethink that... lol (luckily civic was my 2nd back up dream car XD)1. honda civic (99")
2. toyota supra mark III or IV
3. nissan skyline GTR R34
but i barely keep up with GTRs tuning... so its no wonder i didnt hear of it.
Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
Any particular reason why you wouldn't simply consider Honda OEM shocks? As long as you don't purchase them from a dealership, they would probably be trade-off between price vs performance.

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
such brands like Ohlins dont even BOTHER making suspension for a civic.
so in actuality, NONE of our suspension components are "high end"
lol

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
technically if i get eibach suspensions wouldnt that be counted as "high-end"?

Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
you are buying a high end brand...but the technology isnt always offered like they are in high end cars (im talking for mostly coilovers)
plus, our limiting factor is the suspension design itself..the macpherson are not nearly as good as lets say... a double wishbone/double A arm setup.
Re: Bouncy Ride Normal?
oooo.... ok.. cuz when i had enough i was gonna change out my WHOLE suspension system from stock to iebach.... eibach? iebach.... whatever lol, would thats be a good idea?
