Is there a diff when it comes to ball joints?

I have a ball joint problem,

the problem is that I did a complete shock, spring, and ball joint install on a car in which I had bought used....

I bought a 2002 Civic EX w/ Sohc VTEC Motor.

the rear shocks and springs was installed without a hitch...
the passenger side shock, spring, ball joint, again installed without a hitch...

yet the driver side is where the problem lies...

the shocks and springs installed without a problem sort of, but the ball joint was a pain to install even with a press and hammering the crap out of it, still it would neat seat properly to the point where I cant put the cotter pin...

what we had found is this:

I had to enlarge the two bottom bolt holes for the shocks on the driver side, so thus that must mean the previous owner had changed the spindle to an 04+ Civic or could it be another Civic that requires that bolt holes to be enlarged on a 02 Civic strut

one problem is trying to figure what ball joint application do you I use? Seeing the 02 Civic problem that i had tried to use seems to be not the right one

or is there a difference with ball joints from a 03+ Civic, 02 Civic+ Si (EP3 application) ???

so any suggestions folks?

No, they all use the same ball joints.

Get a ball joint puller and use it in reverse. You can rent them from advance autoparts.
