Blown B+G's
So during the tear down of my engine this weekend I found the left front strut blown....oil is everywhere & it goes clunk real loud.....soooo
I loved my B+G full coilovers but they're alot & I can't replace things independtly.....
I was thinking of doing GC's w/ Koni yellows......however, I don't have my stock front struts to cut up.....I do have a selection of used ones here at my dealership. Only problem is how do I know if they are 50mm or 55mm? The part numbers don't reference anything when I search here at the dealership.
I have an 02 Civic ex so I need the 50mm......Anyone got any advice on how to tell or about GC's w/ koni's?

you could measure the used ones you have to find out.
and GCs with konis? probably the best setup for anything really. i don't have GCs but i do have koni yellows and i don't think i'd ever even consider a different damper.

first of all, i suggest you to get ur BG rebuild. its alot easier than having to get a whole new set up...
there are shops in ur area that can do it, or if not, send it into BG for then to rebuild it.
if you insist on GC+koni (which i highly suggest) then you need the 01-02 front struts. you CANNOT use the 03+ struts
why?
ur 02civic uses 14mm holes/screws where as the 03+ uses 16mm
01-02 civics = 50mm housing (14mm bolt)
03-05 civics = 55mm housing (16mm bolt)
with that said, you need the 01-02 front struts...

so you can go ahead n check ur used selection

oh, and as for another method find out if the struts are the 01-02 struts...
take a 14mm bolt (#12 in teh picture) and see thread throught the hole....if its an 01-02 strut, it will fit nicely...if its too loose, its a 16mm one.

my front left blew as well after about 50k. i just trashed the whole setup and went with tokico blues and neuspeeds.

YOu measure the strut housing with a caliper. You will just need to buy Konis for the set of struts you choose. Remember to match the strut mount holes with your car.

I installed them 7/28/2005 at 39,000 miles.....I have about 50,000 miles on em and that is a rough 50k...about a year of that was in wyoming on there horrible *** roads! Not to mention -30 degree weather!

He said $75 a strut....but.....But he said B+G takes other high quality parts & rebadges them as there own. So I need to take pictures of mine & look for # somewhere. That will tell him if mine are one of the companies he services. He kept saying Hotbits company out of malaysia is B+G's main supplier...like 98% of there products! European suspension my ***! haha! They handle though!
