Re: to all TEIN Basic/SS owners
good choice on the teins(i have the same suspension). on my setup, i have a tight two finger gaps on all 4 corners. i could go lower, but i dont want my ride to be really harsh, especially here in socal....

Re: to all TEIN Basic/SS owners
ya, thats why they say wait a week for alignment and try not to drive much. idk, it wont affect it that much. if it doesnt pull to one side on a straight road, its prolly fine.
Re: to all TEIN Basic/SS owners
The front is already too low...trust me. I have my basics all the way down in the front, and it scrapes going over EVERYTHING. haha. I do have the back pretty low as well though. Ill find some pics for you.
Re: to all TEIN Basic/SS owners
how is the ride on the tein basic? is it smooth or bumpy and what about handling? can u take turns pretty good? im planning on getting tein, everyone comments are good about them.
Re: to all TEIN Basic/SS owners
Definitely. I talked to the TEIN guys when I was at SEMA, and they said if you ever need them rebuilt, theyll do it for around $70 per coilover. Thats a pretty good deal. Ill be sending mine in to have them rebuilt here pretty soon, they have a few miles on them now.
Re: to all TEIN Basic/SS owners
I've been on the Tein SS for almost 2 years, and I love them. I was afraid the ride would be too soft or too hard on the Tein basics and I couldn't adjust them, so I saved up some more and got the Tein SS ( didn't get pillowball mounts though). Coilovers will never be as soft and smooth as the stock springs/shocks, but I think the Tein SS is very reasonable overall as far as "bumpiness" goes. The handling is so much better with these too. Without pushing it too hard, I can go 60mph on the highway offramp all the way down(a 270 degree, turbo-shaped offramp). It's hella fun. I can't compare the Tein SS to the basic since I've never ridden on the basic, but the SS is excellent in my opinion.
Re: to all TEIN Basic/SS owners
The Tein SS is not going to be that much more comfortable when slammed to the lowest setting the threaded coil perch can go. The only difference between Basic and SS is that you can adjust the rebound on the SS.
At those heights, with the springs not being stiff enough to keep you off of bumpstops and the shock not having much room to compress, the bumpstops act as another spring(a very stiff one), which acts similar to increased compression damping. That then changes the amount of rebound needed...ect.
If you want a reasonably comfortable/good handling very low ride, an adjustable shock body is needed along with matched shock valving to the desired spring rate. (ie. like Flex w/ +/- 2kg/mm springs of OTS setup) This allows you to maintain ideal shock travel and not contact the bumpstops as abruptly.
A stiff spring won't feel that bad as long as it is paired with a properly valved shock.
The SS/basic's are both pretty good setups. If you want to be able to adjust rebound, get the SS. It might help a bit when your car is a bit lower than optimal range. The basics should be paired well with spring/shock valving, but might feel kind of crappy just because you are too low(for max performance/comfort trad-off)
It all depends on what you use your car for though.

I happened to find some pics laying around. I need to get some new shots, but you get the idea.
