Lowering springs on a hybrid?
Lowering springs on a hybrid?
I know there are some past threads, they have since expired, and don't go into an actual, confirmed, answer.
I know that the spring rates are different (Stiffer) however was wondering if anybody found a manufacturer that makes them specifically for the hybrids -- or if normal drop-springs work ok on the hybrid.
As far as "Why?" -- Well let's say that I love power, but am sick of spending 3+ hours a day in traffic, so I sold my stage2 srt4, bought my slow hybrid, yet I get home half an hour faster (Because I can drive alone in the carpool lane)
Still, the gearhead in me want it to look halfway decent.

I'd have to say just get Konis and Ground Controls... have the springs custom rated.
No off the shelf progressive spring kit exists for the hybrid, I don't think anyone ever intended for them to be modified. Even if you use sedan springs, the *** of the Hybrid is so heavy with the batteries it'll still sag.

Lowering the a hybrid might actually give you better mileage with reduced underbody drag. I bought some H&R springs for my hybrid already, gonna get them installed at superautobacs, dunno if they'll fit yet.

What about this company. They seem to sell springs for the hybrid?

Ti71, I really suggest not lowering your hybrid with just springs. The weight distribution is completely different than a regular civic.
I would love to do this right. I don't mind spending a bit of money for it done right, but I don't see any kits for a hybrid (just the springs and camber kits) and this is as close as I've come to anything specific to hybrid.
What else would be needed. Also, what kind of camber kit would I need for a 1" drop how many degrees would it have to be able to compensate for?
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I think having the information specific to hybrids in one thread would be a good idea.
If the original poster has done his drop I would love to see pictures.

Any full coilover should fit. I think that would be the best way to go because they can be used to compensate for the weight distribution. SPC and ingalls seem to be preferred camber kits.
Just a follow up for those interested on what I did in reguards to my hybrid. I have a set of tein ss coilovers and spc camber kit front/back on order. I may have them installed in a week or two and I'll try to remember to update as to how they ride and how the car looks. Thanks robbclark1 and everyone else that gave advice.
I highly doubt that any aftermarket mod will produce better aerodynamics and yield more mpg than the hybrid has from the factory. I'm sure the honda engineers did everything possible to make the car as aerodynamic and fuel efficient as possible.
Well, a drop will help aerodynamics, its just basic physics. It may not help much and be practicaly insignificant but I'm not doing the drop solely for getting better cd. I'm hoping for the car to look slightly better and to get slightely better handling, and maybe even if I'm luckly just a little bit better aerodynamics.
Like I said above, I'll try to remember to post back here with the details on how the new suspension works out.

Please post pics up if you can Tbaleno. Also how much were the Tein SS? And did you get pillowball top mounts with them or will you be using your stock top mounts?
BTW I got the H&Rs installed, they feel like stock but I don't like how the rear looks lower than the front. I'll be saving up for coilovers but I wish I would have gone with Neuspeed sport springs instead.
I would post pics but my bro lost my camera so I need to get a replacement.

The tein SS where about $1300 installed. I didn't get the pillowball top mounts as the guy selling them to me said that thepillowball was only realy needed for some add on computer that would let you adjust them remotely or something (I may have missunderstood him though).
I heard because of the battery pack the rear would sag and thats why it was recommended to me to get coilovers. Sounds like I did the right thing.
No camera phone to take pictures or anything? I'd realy like to see hybrids that have been dropped. I think theres a total of 10 pictures in the gallery.
