help

i put my springs on today (tein springs) and whenever i turn the steering wheel i hear something in the wheel clicking like its hitting something. i had my friend look at it while i moved the steering wheel and he told me that the spring is moving.....i'm jus wondering if this is ok and if it pop into place as i drive...


fyi - installed by a mechanic

The spring sometime will bind on something and then pop back into place. Did your friend see this happening? Also on macpherson struts there is a bearing that wears in the upper strut mount that will make a popping sound when turning.

don't know exactly how to fix your problem on the shocks, but this happened when i didn't set the spring preload tight enough for my coilovers. fixed easily by tighten it back

There are a few reasons for the noise

1) Probably the most common - he did not index the shock/mount correctly. (for indexing see the FAQ)

2) The dead coils are rubbing. You will need coil wrap to insulate them.

3) The spring is moving around because he didn't seat it properly.

Coils and springs are different. springs should not have any play in them at all. Coils springs shouldn't either but sometimes it happens.
