17's & rubbing HELP
What's up guys,
Two weekends ago I installed sportlines and HP Blues, with the SPC kit. We got the camber close for now but I know I need an alignment. Well I drove all last week w/o any problems. This friday I couldn't wait to see the 17's on the car, so I threw them on and the RUB BADLY....I don't know what the problem is, I don't think I can use these unless I roll my fenders. The tires are cooper cobra's and the rims are no-name 17" wheels. The tires stick out about 3/8" in the rear and the metal rear fender is a good 5/8". It rubs soooo bad, I drove WAY SLOW on them only for about 8-10 miles before I changed them back. Does this make sense with 17's? I see people slammed with different settups w/o any problems. Thanks for your help

Yeah the 215/45/17 size shouldn't matter. I am dropped 3 inches with the same size tires and I adjusted my camber so I am cambered in so it doesn't rub and the fronts don't rub either and they are 17 x 7.5 in the front...

so the offset is probably the issue? I guess I could adjust the camber so it's slightly off, but maybe they won't rub? I'd have to clear almost an inch though, between the tires sticking out past the wheel well and the metal lip inside the fender. What exactly is the OFFSET? I'm not a newb, and I think I know what it is, but it's hard to explain. Is it possible I can't use these rims? Now for the flaming, they're chrome wheels also, which were quite expensive....Thanks again guys

is it even worth getting an allignment?
I've got an appointment next sat for a high end auto allignment place with a pit rack for lowered cars, BUT i live in Boston and the 17's won't be on until the spring. Is it a waste to get it alligned w/ the hubbies on? It's 105 for the allignment....

Hey I'm running on on 215/18/35 no names volantes with an offset around 42+ that's a civic offset. something like that. and My fenders on the back are rolled up well they got to be or it won't fit and it'll majorly rub like a ****** ****er. If you run 205 you don't need to roll your fenders but wider tires mean more traction! so roll those fenders up and no more rubbing get your wheel alignment and your car will raise a bit and it won't hurt you suspension either. It's a healthier thing to do and the ride feels better with correct camber. My friend had showcased his car with bad cambers and in three years on an 01+ civic he blew out his suspension because of bad camber. He was on Team Show Case in HIN in San Diego I think.
I also wanted to comment on the guy earlier about his 215's are cambered in. The camber is check from the bottom of your tire, and if you got 215's like me and your tires are cambered in. WOW and you don't rub that is crazy. Because that means your top of your tire sticks out. Dude make sure the alignment shop you go to knows how to do alignments. Because I've been to like 6 and they all suck but I go to my friends Show Case Garage now. Make sure they adjust and tighten everything!

^ So basically, go and get it alligned at this reputable shop for 105$ then
roll the fenders so the 215's will fit? I've got a nice groove in the rear tires
from less than 10 miles, it's not too deep, but it's there. the paint on the inner rear wells is already coming off and missing in some spots. get the baseball bat and start rolling I guess? It doesn't sound like such an exact science, it's probably possible to f'up your car rolling the fenders also, huh?
It's always SOMETHING!!!!

Don't worry about messing your car by rolling your fenders up. It won't and that's how most garages do it anyways lol, or you can take a hammer and do it but u got to get the wheel off and be careful. If the grove is not that deep it won't be bad to run on them. Just don't expect them to put up as a new tire would. If you want wider tires maybe if they have them for our years you can get them. It's the rear control arm. You can shorten the control are so you pull your tires more in. I don't know if they have them but I like WIDE tires. If I could slam widers tires on my civic I would.

but the current tires stick are at least flush with the fender, even if they're rolled, you must have a good 1/8" of material there right? wouldn't that 1/8" still rub against the rear tires? I guess you could do neg camber eaiser with a narrower fender wall right?.......
I don't know your current tire size but I'm guessing they're 215? 205's you don't need to roll your fenders but they will be close to your tires. When I rolled my fenders up and and rolled my car to get it in position after you raised it to put the bat in. the fender basically looks like it's sitting on the tires and missing the tires like 1 cm or less. It won't rub with weight in the car it may sound wierd but it won't. The only way it will rub is if you hit a dip real hard or drop real hard and the car gets slammed it will rub besides that it will never rub. I have positive or correct camber and my fender wall I did it myself I rolled it all the way up. I'm not sure if I answered your question tho. The part that rubs is the top of the tire in the fender well cuz it gets slammed.

i got 225/45/17 and my bitches rub in the back, so i put some negative *** camber.. hah... the fronts are fine, but when i turn the tires all the way to 1 side, they rub.. slightly
Trust me. I run bigger rims and slightly smaller tires than you but it would be around the same. Just fix your camber, roll up those sleeves, and you'll be fine. I'll get pictures of my car if that is something you need to see.

yes, bumpstops are back in, it's only a problem with the width of the tires is what I'm thinking. Did you have sportlines and 215-45-17?
Thanks Oddmut, nice pics BTW....did you roll your fenders, it's tough to tell by the pics.......and I forgot my damn camera today - Pics will be up - D

Yup I rolled my fenders up or else I would of had mad rubbing. I was just driving last night with 2 people in the back 1 in the front with me and the freeway wasn't actually just straight and leveled. The car did not rub one bit. I can say you have nothing to lose.
