Spring Q (bumpstops)

I installed neuspeeds sport springs on the rear of my 01 coupe Friday. When I had everything put back together and the car of the jack stands I let the e-brake off so the car would settle. I get out to look at it and instead of having a 2 finger gap it was tucking almost an inch of tire. So I called neuspeed for advice and he said to check the bump stops. Turns out the previous owner had cut down the bump stops a good bit. I managed to find some uncut bump stops and installed them. That raised the car up where it needs to be but it is resting on the bump stops now. So I call neuspeed again and he said that was how it's supposed to be. Is this true? With the car resting on the bump stops it has no real suspension travel, it only travels the distance that the bump stop will compress. I have always thought that the weight of the car was supposed to rest on the spring. Please correct me if I am wrong.

you should see piston (shiny silver tube about 1/2 inch in diameter ) coming out the end.......how much of a drop is the spring sposed to give....cuz I have tokico blues with prokit eibach springs and i got a 2 finger gap all around...

yeah your not supposed to be sitting on the bumpstop, they are there so if your hit a big "bump" it will keep the suspension from bottoming out.

Thanks Mick, that's what I thought. The spring should support the weight of the car and the strut should damper the movement of the spring. The bumpstop is to prevent bottoming out the strut.

The damper will also support some of the car's weight. Unless you have enough spring rate to hold up 2700 lbs, which neuspeeds don't. The stiffness of the shock also helps some to keep the car up, so if you're riding on the bumpstops and the springs are installed correctly, that leads me to believe something isn't right with the dampers. Either the seals are shot and they're leaking the pressurized gas, or if you got the shocks used, they were blown when you got them. You should have quite a bit of piston sticking out.
