question

i just ordered my neuspeed race springs and i plan to get the camber kit soon but i am gonna have to wait for awhile til i get the shocks/struts. I know of people that have ridin over a yr on the stock shocks and were fine but there drop wasnt as low as mine. My question is besides a rough ride would it be alright to ride on blown shocks for awhile? I am gonna get shocks asap but cant afford them right now. Thanks again

Its not exactly the safest thing, and your handling will be comprimised... Shocks do a lot more for the car then people suspect.

but you'll probably be fine. make sure you get an aligment on the car (with or with out the camber kit). your toe alignment will be off when you lower the car, and that will eat tires quicker then just about any amount of negitive camber.

Do it once, do it right the first time.
Driving on a blown suspension is stupid and not safe. The car is unstable at speed and unable to recover from an emergency move.
If you have to do it twice, you're twice as likely to mess something up. The oh so fickle front suspension doesn't like to be played with, so you might as well do it as few times as possible. I would expect stock shocks to blow almost instantly with a 2+" drop. Rather than waste the time and money to do it twice and deal with the hassle and have a shitty ride, why not just wait and do it all at once. Honestly, you should have bought the shocks first, they do more than springs will ever do.

not in the ricer world.
but yeah, riding on blown shocks is fine, but its just very uncomfortable....

oh, and can someone explain to me how lowering the suspension would mess up the toe? i can see how it mess up the camber, but how does it affect the toe?

As you lower the car the angle between the steering rack and the tie rod mounts on the struts change. Think Triangulation... as you lower the car you will be causing more and more toe in on the front of the car.

BTW, Blown shocks can be dangerous, as boilermaker states the car can be unstable at speed and it will not react all that quickly to emergency situations (both with steering imputs and braking)

thx, and rep'd.
haha, i forgot that the tie rod can move up and down.
that explains for the front, what about rear?

and i would assume when people are driving on blown shocks, they wouldn't try to drive fast...

Rear toe doesn't do much. Its a cam bolt (the head is off center to the shaft), and it kinda wiggles the knuckle with respect to the lower arm. If you rotate it 1 or 2 degrees it won't do much of anything to your alignment, but it can wiggle around over time, so its best to have it checked and 0ed when you get your front end done.
