Lowering a Toyota Tundra....??

If I buy a truck, I want to lower it. I know there are tons of suspension products for American trucks, but what about something like a Toyota Tundra? I don't want to do airbags.

i had a 4runner and tried to lower it. Theres only like 1 lowering kit for my car and it was an inch drop and it was like $400 or something. I dont know about the tundra but most people raise their trucks.

Rasing a truck makes no sense to me. Yeah it looks kinda cool but when I go to load up Harleys or my chopper in the bed, I want that thing as low to the ground as possible.

people lift trucks for various reasons, the ones i can think of is offroading, better suspension performance, some like the look of oversized tires (i personally dont), etc

although not impossible, i doubt many people do it, due to its size, most people raise it.

www.customtacos.com site for tacoma's people slam those a lot on that site. looks very nice. maybe you want something smaller? a tacoma?

found a lowered tundra. not slammed, but lower than stock. sosperf.com makes the kit

click on link (warning, img is 2mb): http://www.sosperf.com/images/lowere...dra%20copy.jpg

dropped tacoma:

Try loading a 9 foot 700+ pound custom chopper into the bed of a normal height truck. Take the same bike and load it into a lowered truck. Which one is easier?

Lowering a Toyota Tundra....??

" .... is pointless?"
NO! I'm sorry, "Is gay" was the correct answer. Sorry.
Come back tomorrow night for another exciting episode of fill in the blanks!

im sorry any lowered pick-up looks terrible. it can't be done. +rep for finding any lowered pickup that doesnt look like ****. can't be done.
plus if you lower it that 990 lb bike is gunna cause you to scrape and pop tires.

well if thats what you want to do... gay on. more power to you. im sorry if i offended you.

lowering a truck defeats the whole point of having one. You lower cars, not trucks. And hes right, with all that weight in the back, you should get a skidplate so you can make sparks as you're driving.

Explain that genius quote. A truck is used for its bed. The bed is actually more functional when it has been lowered.

My honest opinion.... look into bagging it... you can drop it but as mentioned once you put a great deal of weight into the bed you will be scraping, which in most places is concidered destruction of public property which is illegal... I have seen a great number of trucks that have been slammed or just lowered that come out badass... Keep in mind though, if you do decide to bag it, you will need to cut the bed to make room for the axel and bags. This may cause a problem for you. If you are looking for a large perm. drop, look into having the axel rest on the frame rather than the frame resting on the axel. Sorry I don't remember the actual name of this process. I'll ask my team mate if you'd like...

Back when low-riders first came out most owners were Mexican-American. I have even read that in a high school economics book, so don't say "Well not all of them." true, but the larger percentage was at the beginning of the style.
So he isnt being racist i think he meant it as a joke but unfortunatly he didnt think you were and now you are going to take it the wrong way and he looks like an @ss. All over a stupid joke. so dont take it the wrong way.

but... with the lowered bed your tires run dangerously close to rubbing and on bumps could rub and pop, or go flat cause of laceration. Modding a truck suspension is just as much a pain when its lowering it. You run into alot of new problems. Seriously though, lowered trucks and their drivers look really gay to anyone not into that. just like a civic with a wing looks like rice to anyone w/o one. you see the point? Lowering a truck is the american verision of ricing it out! it's redneck rice.

In a forum that is so culturally diverse it's a bit hard not to offend someone when the race card is played.

As for the truck, I agree it is going to be a pain in the *** to lower it, but if it is functioning then it eliminates the definition of rice. Him dropping it would serve a purpose other than show, and at that point is no longer rice. I still think his best bet would be bagging it, but since that forces a cut out in the bed, it's going to cause problems regardless... if it comes down to it, he could always add a hydrolic(sp) lift to the bed, and a electronic hitch to the back and have it pulled into position still keeping the stock height...

Wtf lowered trucks are gay?? Steak drop that **** like its hot. I have pics of my mini truck project if you wanna see dumped how about a half inch of ground clear. Now this all depends on how low you want to go. Most trucks use blocks for the rear and what ever for the front. When you run a block you do change the geometry but still maintain the same ride(if not a bit stiffer). But if you are using it to haul 900+ lbs then I would go a block remove a leaf then add air bag helper to the back. It is what I did to my datsun and it is dropped quite a bit. But I can air up the back and load it up. I had over 800lbs of steel in the back at 15 psi in my bags and it rode like a caddy. Just remeber though going straight out bags is a pain in the ***. When you go helper you still retain all factory components but with the option to raise it up. I set mine to have the bag almost compressed at normal drive height then inflates and gives me about an extra 6-7 inches tilll the leaf spring maxes out. Plus the bag helper is only about 375 bucks for every thing you need. Either way good luck and post pics I want to see. And if you want to see what my(ugly) *** project looks like then no prob.

I like that idea of the bag helpers. I had totally forgotten about those. I've bagged a car before and did all the custom work myself. It ain't the easiest thing to do. And hell yeah I would love to see pics of your projects!!

Its not finished yet but its a 73 datsun truck. I have around 4k in motor. It is a 82 z22(4cyl) block 40 over balanced with the lightened flywheel. I have 76 L20b head with bigger valaves fully ported exhaust and port matched intake. I have a 280/480 cam and a 500cfm weber dncf carb off of a masarati, and a custom intake manifold. A custom 2.5 inch exh and a custom recurved and modified sss distributer. All parts have been a chore since no body really makes any thing for these any more. And almost all my parts had to be custom modified or made. Also more to the fact I wanted to keep it all nissan. The suspension is a simple torsion bar front(which is about as low as I can get it) and I blocked the rear with a 4inch block. Then me and my pops fabricated the rear air helper. But the bad news is I have spun a bearing at 5k miles. So its going back to the builder to get fixed. We found out the hard way why too much timing for too long warrants a new dist and bearing!

Here are some pics of my ugly *** project.
