well hydroplaned it into a curb goin 20 tonight right after work. and after i pulled over i see my steelie bent and part of my tire with it. and when i was driving my alignment was off(pretty bad too) and go passed 40mph my steering wheel shakes ALOT! when i went home i told my dad wat happened and he wasnt too worried about it. but he said something about my rack and pinion being damaged. and i was wondering.....would my rack and pinion on my car be damaged too from just hitting the curb at that speed? and wat else could be damaged you think too? thanks in advance.

I hit a curb going around 40-50mph and this is the rim damage that resulted.
I hit the front passenger side, btw.

To go straight my steering wheel needed to be turned 45 degrees to the right.
Complete front passenger side suspension had to be replaced because it was either bent or blown.

Definitely go to an mechanic and have it checked out.

Just jack up the ride, take off your wheels, and take a gander to see if its something you can fix yourself. Could be something simple...

If its not something you can see or fix then its shop time...

yea i will do tomm mourning...goinmg to wheel works to see if i need alignment and to see if they could check wat else could be wrong with my steering. or should i go to a real mechanic shop tomm to get it looked at?

Check your control arms, check the steering rack, check the strut... check the knuckle.. basically give that corner of the car a good onceover and make sure every thing else is ok.


EDIT: if you start to get abnormal tire wear on that corner, you may have a Bent strut or control arm... So keep an eye on it for a while.

^^^ well just came back from school and went to the shop this mourning and discovered that i have a bent lower control arm and a broken endlink on my fron tsway bar!

so its like $111 for the lower control arm and like $129 for the front sway bar from the dealership!!!!

so anyone know where to get these 2 parts cheap?

If the bar needs to be replace upgrade to a aftermarket one then

the endlink holds the sway bar to the body

the endlink is # 8 and # 9 in the pic below and is like $10.
the sway bar is # 5 in the picture and is like $ 63.

it sounds like u had alot of damage for only going 20....if there is that much damage, when it gets all fixed, i would have someone check ur subframe too....cause i hit a curb at 40 and it broke my shock, lower control arm, sway bar linkage and bent the sub frame.....

make sure you have the alignment checked afterwards. I've seen LOTS worse damage from curb impacts at 5mph!!! You would be surprised what can bend at slow speeds

stupid 300 dollar a rim... o well... atleast it took the impact good... i changed the lower controller arm and the bearing... and straighten the frame... its good at new..

I hit a curb going around that speed and hit a stop sign pole, basically had my whole suspension bent back about an inch. Had the mech bend it back, pop my fender back out and repaint it.... that was about it.

Good ol' american forged rims! You hit the curb at twice the speed he did and got 1/4 of the damage.

well where in the frame would i look to see if its bent also?(on the driver side front left?)

youre talking about suspension wise? you can kind of eye ball it, or just take a ruler and measure the gap between the tire and the fender, for me, the front right wheel was about an inch back compared to the left front.

welp, just do what i did...put the broken rim to good use and make it the weight for a clay pigeon shooter

honda should be able to inspect ur frame for free once ur car is fixed...or even the shop u have the work done at can do it.

well i just took off the wheel on the front driver side and my lower control arm is actually cracked! and my front sway bar endlink is cracked also! luckily i just bought those parts off of hondaautomotiveparts.com last night.

well got one question about replacing the lower control arm. for the bolt that is connected to the kuckle and the lower control arm would i have to take off the whole brake and suspension assembly in order for me to replace the lower control arm? or if i take this bolt out(the one that connects to the lower control arm and kuckle) would the kuckle and brake assembly be fine just sitting there while i take off the other 2 bolts for the control arm?

also for all you guys with the honda service manuel or if you know anyone with the service manuel. can any of you guys scan and post the pages of the assembly instructions (the how to) to put on the lower control arm and front sway bar and endlink? thanks much appreciated.

wow, i guess i am really lucky, bc i hit a curb and the end of a sidewalk(the ramp part so it didn't do anything) at about 10mph and i also hit a curb at an angle at about 10mph and i have nothing wrong with my car. I guess i got lucky or i hit it just right. I have had major work done on my front end since then due to someone hitting me, so i would know if something was wrong.

You dont have to disassemble the brakes or any thing else.. the Lower control arm is attaced to the knuckle with one nut. (its on the bottom) then there are 2 attachment places on the sub frame. Un do all of them and the control arm will just about fall out of the car. the endlink is easy too.

use an alan key to stop the endlink from rotating, and use a wrench to un do the bolt. when you get you new endlink check the end of the threaded part and you'll see where the alan key goes. Simple.

lol, a 14.5pound 18 inch paper weight... its not a really good paper weight...lol... that is the only damage to the rim... i got a new tire and put it on. you will barley notice it, there is no air or anything that leaks...\

lol i actually hit a stop sign and my car actually hopped on the side walk lol...

I did that once. I had a bent frame and three flat tires. I quit drivin drunk after that one. HHHUUUUMMMMM!

if youre hydroplaning at 20mph, you have some more things to worry about. you shouldnt be hydroplaning going THAT slow...might need to get new tires.

i did that in the snow. and bent my control arm (peice number 10).

20mph hydroplane in water. no way unless ur running with slicks or something. I go 60-70 when its raining and it starts to plane.

20mph is when ice takes hold and scares ya.
