A wheel lifting off the ground when turning
A wheel lifting off the ground when turning
I was taking a 90 degree turn one day in a residention area and i was only doing maybe 25 and i took the turn rather wide and i got a good amount of of understeer. A friend was following me and he said that my inside rear tire acually came of the ground when i turned which would explain the understeer. Is that something to be worried about, or is that somewhat common even though I have done tighter faster turns and had no problems? Every thing is stock btw.

yes it happens. Watch some autox videos or look at some pictures. Spec-Vs are notorious for it. Nothing is wrong. You just took the turn too fast

is this a stock civic or some other car? because the rear suspension on the civic is kinda soft to lift off the ground, and unless its wet out its REALLY hard to oversteer the civic.
but next time be more careful in residential areas. you dont know if there are kids around the corner.

Its actually quite hard to roll a car nowadays... and it ushually takes a number of actions to get the car to do it too. the simplest way though is to side sideways in to something soft, like sand or dirt.
BTW, its VERY common for a FWD car to lift a tire under hard cornering. all it takes is grippy tires, or heavy braking just before a sharp turn, or tuning the chassis.. In racing its generally accepted that a well tuned FWD car should just bairly lift the rear inside wheel when it reaches its limits of traction.

Thats a damper issue... what ever dampers you are running are too soft for what ever springs you are running.

wheels lifting aside, some of you people seriously need to learn how to drive. i mean even if i believed that you could get 2 wheels of a stock 96 LX civic more than a foot in the air, hows that something to be proud of dude?

i think you got those to backwards. you were oversteering.

He sorta has it right. If the car is plowing, then it is understeer. If the car's tail end is slipping out then it is oversteer. However, you can get a lot of understeer and possibly lift the rear wheel. The tail end doesn't necessarily have to come out in order for the wheel to lift.

Yes it is

Not a lot of wheel lift, but its the best photo I've got showing it...
yea looks like what probally happened, it is funny though i have taken tighter turns and gone faster and had no problems, although I think the crowning of the road might have effected it, or i think i might have cranked the wheel exactally the right amount at the right time. It is fun to do that though, I once took a banked turned at about 55 and the back end just lost it and I had way too much oversteer to deal with, it was pretty fun to do the whole thing now that I lok back on it bc the car didn't flip (although now i know that is very unlikly) and a car wasn't coming around the corner. I bet with some new tires, it might acually make that turn.
