is it true that were better off putting springs on our civic(7th gens) instead of coilovers?? i went to this shop one day to have my car lowered, then he told me that he doesnt recommend the use of coilovers specially on this model.......i asked him why, then he told me that using coils will damage the bearings or something, i wasnt really sure if thats true. so i decided to cancell the job and went to a different shop but i got the same comment........is there any truth on this??? coz i want to drop my car but i want to raise it again on the winter, coz i live in canada and we do get crazy snow up here......so pls. can you guys help me or even recommend what kind or type of suspension to use..........thanks....

If you want to drop and then raise it again, just get full coilovers. Hayames for our car run $650. that guy was bs you, just get good coilovers if you go with them, either skunk2 or ground control. then get aftermarket shocks. Konis are the only one out now for our car. But there are a variety of full coilovers out for our car.

if ur on a budget, u can go with good springs and when weather issues come up... replace with stock springs?

but if u have money, full-coilover = best choice

heh, damage bearings???

I'd like to see that, as it usually tends to straighten out the driveshafts from the diff to the wheel, if anything it makes for less bearing wear.

The problem people have been having with "coilovers" Vs just a spiring deals with the fact that 99% of them Never replace the shocks.... Stock shocks arnt all that strong to begin with and when you slap a 400 LB/in spring on them they Blow pretty quickly = Bad ride. Just pick up some Konis and you'd be able to run just about any spring you want at just about any ride height (there still is a such a thing as too low, and bottoming out any shock will destroy it).

i need some help here.... im looking for suspension for my '01 civic coupe, and people are all telling me different things. I know that coilovers are the way to go, but at the same time people tell me that the ground controls will due me fine... what do you all think?... im on a fixed budget, but at the same time i dont want to buy things that i will crap out on me.. what should i do?

yeah i went to lower my car with coilovers the other day, not the full coilovers (on a budget) and i got the same response that they dont recommend it. something to do with the bearings and the size of the stock springs in the front, cuz they are bigger than the coilovers. he said they will make a loud bang noise when i make a sharp turn. im looking for something adjustable though cuz i live in canada too and winter time would be a bitch, plus i just like being able to change the height when i wanted. anyone know a solution?

Putting springs on with out changing the Shocks is what makes the car bouncy.


99% of all problems that people have with Coilover springs is due to Improper installation.

It is a different kind of bounce for true coils. the car will bounce, but will steady itself a lot quicker which makes it feel like it is bouncy, when it isn't.
