tell him that when it is droped it handels better so if you have to dodge something you can do it better.
it saves on gas milage since you are lower to the ground you have the wind over and around you instead of all over you?
and it just looks better

Haha- origanally my mom was against me doing anything to my car- so then I just kinda did it. Right now, she is at the point where I can pretty much do whatever I want to it but if ANYTHING goes wrong or anything, Its outta my pocket (i.e. suspension, etc.). I just had my Tein SS put it last week.
Just do your research and present why it is better. My Honda Service Advisor even told me that the Tein was a better suspension than stock and that helped my mom be less nervous.
She also now realizes my car is my life and its my hobby. We were joking around last night about how I have spent $4,000+ on a $16,000 car. LOL
Oh well- it looks damn good

eh... just spend enough time and money messing with it and eventually they'll come around. I had to present the justification case to drop $1700 on new wheels. The tires made sense to them since its not hard to realize how bad they suck, but the wheels were a want, not a need... so I had to play the game. Kinda hard to justify something thats stylistic, but you gotta run the "Do your own thing" line and the "it looks like everyone else's" line, that helps, plus I used the light weight thing, and the fact that they were stronger. They didn't know until they showed up that they were also larger, but my dad actually loves them.... so it all worked out for the better.
And a Civic doesn't HAVE to be dropped. I'm racing on my stock suspension, and it works just fine. You also need to do it non-ghetto... springs AND shocks, or full coils, and the camber kits... cuz if you pop the shocks in 2 months cuz of the springs, its gonna **** them off even more since there was nothing wrong with it before.
There is no good excuse to drop a car unless its done right. It isn't gonna increase the handling too much because the tires will still give WAAAAAAAAAY too early for the suspension to get pushed. It appears you only want it for looks, so you'll just have to make up reasons why it looks better to you that make some sort of logical sense.

I think your parents dont want you to because when you say dropped, they think ground scraping. Are you wanting coilovers, springs, or full coilovers? My dad and I are talking about putting a drop, better wording than dropping it, on my civic, but my mom thinks that doing that is stupid. I thinking of going with coilovers because the potholes suck here, and I have 17" wheels. My parents thought that getting aftermarket wheels were stupid until they saw that I needed new tires on my vic and aftermarket wheels were only a few coins more. You just need to find the right timing on talking to your parents and letting them consider it. If they want to talk to us about drops, than that is a possibality for you on getting a drop.

Show him before and after pics of someone's ride. make sure he knows you're going to do it right, and not all ghetto. Tell him it will increase the handling performance, which helps make your car safer because 1) you can turn harder without losing traction and 2) it might help you avoid something that you would otherwise hit/would otherwise hit you. If you have an 01 or 02 that came with crappy Firestones tell him you want to replace those, too, because the tires suck when it's dry and suck 10 times worse when it's wet.
But the main reason he probably doesn't want you to do it is because he's probably thinking of some ghetto *** car when you say you want to drop him. Assure him it can be done tastefully (i'm assuming you want it to look clean and not all ghetto...). Ask him if he likes the way Porches and Z3's and 350Z's look. Tell him a drop will make your suspension closer to theirs, because those cars all come with lower suspension than ours. Or something like that.
Good luck.

I'm in the same situation. True, my dad did pay for my car so on that note I do listen to him, that and he is helping me by paying my (major) bills while I am in college. But what I do with my money is my business. i don't have a warranty anymore so I don't have to worry about convincing him that things won't affect that. He hasn't seen the Injen SRI I put on a month ago (haven't been home to see them yet) and now I'm in the market for a quiet exhaust, one that when I idle into the driveway they won't notice but when I stomp on it it gives a little sound. When I do get a drop I'll probably go with Tein SS and raise it back up whenever I go home which isn't often. I'm looking at a set of Eibach springs for now though, just to give a slight drop that they won't even notice. But parents can be convinced. My parents have told me to just have fun while I'm in college (already had one severly bad experience) and not worry about stuff that I shouldn't have to worry about until I get to the "real" world. So that's how I explain the altezzas and shift boot if they say anything about them, and the intake and strut bar if they even notice them. Just try to talk to your parents with the tactics mentioned above and if nothing else works, mention how much safer you will be because you have better handling to avoid an accident.
