Slightly torn tie rod boot
Slightly torn tie rod boot
Well I slightly tore the tie rod boot when doing one side of my suspension last weekend. So I packed it with grease and taped it up as a temporary fix.
I now hear creaking on the front driver side when I turn the steering wheel. I am assuming this is the cause. So a couple of questions:
1, What else might be causing the noise if it's not from the torn boot?
and
2, If it IS the boot, where can I get a new one and for how much?
Thanks.

Honda dealership. . .should be less than $30.
I bought one for that exact reason a few months back. Been so busy with getting the car ready for shows I've been too lazy to swap it out.
Now I get a horrid noise from that knuckle on the driver's side when I turn left.

I've heard the boots are a pain in the arss to install..
what did you use to remove your tie-rod end?.. I bought a tie-rod remover from pep-boys ($10) never once tore a boot, and each side has been removed twice already!

you shouldn't even have to touch the tie rod boot to remove it.. if you're going to install springs or coilovers, follow the DIY I made in the suspension forum / DIY area. it'll save you some money!

I checked out a tie rod seperator from Autozone, but it's made for a tie rod that has a hollow bolt, or at least an indent for the little cone tip that mounts up next to it. I think Honda sells specialized tools for removeing things like this. I just did what Mex did though. Simply spray on some WD-40, make sure the wheels are straight, and hammer the ****er out from underneath. I used a two pound sledge. Worked like a charm. Thanks Mex.
I did use a tie rod separator. Only problem is mine was so difficult to pry off, we partially ripped the very bottom of it while trying to pry the bolt out. It's just a little rough around the bottom, not torn up the side at all. So I packed it with grease and taped it up. That's why I think it may be a problem with the coilovers not being seated properly.
Will lubing up the springs on all 4 corners help solve the problem? The more I drive it, the more it seems to be a creaking from the spring and not the tie rod. But the noise is definitely from that same vicinity.
Give me some advice on lube...heh.
