Question Stock Wheel Offset

Hi there,

Newbie here - obviously since I format this like an email. What is the offset of the stock wheels on a 7th gen Civic? I was only interested in the ones for the sedan, but for reference, all the other models too, if you know.

Also, a more ridiculous question, I was playing with the tire calculator and it seems that a 285/30-18 wouldn't be too bad a size replacement. My question is, what would it take to make that thing fit inside the wheel wells?

stay in between 40 - 45 and you should be fine..

285? are you serious? those go on rims that are like 9" wide.. biggest you can go is probably 225-35-18.. i'm running 215-40-18. most people run 215s.. you might rub with 225s

if you want to fit 285s, your going to have to do alot of modding to fit inside the wheel wells, just isnt worth it..

Offset is related to the rim width, so it depends on the rim width. The ideal offset for 15x6 stock rim is different from an aftermarket 16x7 or 17x7 rim.

You will not be able to use 285, far too wide!

The stock rim offset is +38mm, but that is only for a 6 inch wide wheel as it changes with different wheel widths. The stock wheel for an EX is 15X6 and others are 14X6. To make that 285 fit you would probably have to reconfigure the entire suspension, it's way too wide.

Thanks to all who replied - and the one guy who actually answered the offset question =). So okay, I am now confused about offset. I always thought that offset was just how far the center of the wheel's width was from where the hub centre connects to the wheel. Positive being further out and negative being further in. How is it relative to width?

I wasn't actually serious about the 285. I think that's obvious since playing with the calculator some more revelaed that a 305/30-17 is the biggest one with 0% difference in speedo readout. So anything less than that has to be a joke, right? Heh =).

The combo I was actually considering was a 245/35-18 on 8 inch wide wheels. I have to admit tho', the idea of tyres the size of beer kegs in the wheel wells does sound appealing.

245 is still WAY to wide for the car. 215 would be the max. And as far as the offset, stay between 38 and 43.
