205/40/17 or 205/45/17???
I just bought some enkei cdr9's today and im getting em insatlled on thursday they have 205/40/17 federal tires on them and i was told that with that size tire it wont screw up my speedometer but alot of people are runnin 205/45/17, now did that screw up your speedometer? wich would be the closest to stock diameter??? i hope 205/40/17's will be ok since i already bought them! and also has anyone heard of federal tires? are they any good? thanks in advance!

205/40/17 is like 4% off, 205/45/17 is like .8% off. Whoever told you that was an idiot, the only reason you would run 205/40 is to slam the car, or because you think rubberband sidewalls look cool.
To get close to stock, you get 205/45 or 215/45. Both are off by about the same amount, 205 is smaller, 215 is bigger.

Federal tires are junk. I've seen them before and they're basically just your cheap lo pro tire a la Nankang.
Yeah I would not run 205/40 now if you had a 6th gen civic running 17" rims then yeah 205/40 would be fine. 205/45 is your best bet with my EX I am running 215/45 and its fat but I still love the ride plus I don't gain any miles.

Ok I got my tire size changed to 205/45/17 instead of 205/40/17 and I also got the tires changed to kumho instead of federal tires, The guy said he was gonna put the 205/40/17's on cause it would make it easier to fit if i lowered it? Now does this mean i wont be able to lower it because i have 205/45/17's now? and are kumho 711's (i think) better than federals???

no...just stay with a 'sport' drop (1.75 / 1.5) and you will be just fine

I run 205/40/17's. I love the profile and look. Though I think next time I'll got with 45's, for a bit more comfort and rim protection. My 40's are 4% off at the speedometer, so at 100mph your really only going 96mph. At 50, your doing 48mph. When I'm cruising with traffic its still the same, so its not as big deal IHMO.
