search on tirerack or tires.com and look at the tread life rating. the yokohama avid h4's have good tread life (i think) ill be getting them in 205/40/17 in the summer. only h rating tho.

Try to pick a tire with a higher traction rating (300+) and a better temperature rating as well, that will help in the life of the tire. You may want to get a different compound too, one that is not so soft and will last longer.

If you have the money...

Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP.

Not only will they last but they will outperform a lot of popular performance tires out there in wet or dry traction.

That # is meaningless if you're comparing tires that are of different brands.

Well, if you're eating the shoulders and you aren't under inflating, then quit tearing through corners! Thats the only other way you can possibly eat up the shoulders. And just so we're sure they're not underinflated, what pressure are using?

Traction is measured with a letter grade....C,B,A,AA,AAA. Treadlife is given a number rating...300 on a performance tire is good.

Also maybe it's time for an alignment?

That # is meaningless if you're comparing tires that are of different brands.
Why is that? They're all tested in the same controlled environment...

BTW I wouldn't expect 30-40k out of a performance tire...Cause it probably won't happen.

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Pistons... 25k miles from an ITR owner. For a performance tire, that is quite impressive.

That tire is pretty much the same tire I listed above but this one sacrifices longevity for better traction.

The average joe will obviously think that Firestone can't make good tires because of the stock tires their CHEAP *** Honda Civic comes with when in fact:

The Integra Type R, DC2 and DC5 come stock with Bridgestone Potenzas.

The Corvette C5 comes stock with Firestone Firehawks.

These cars in stock form can perform at their BEST with these tires.

Next time, if you want to try to post smart advice or bash a company, back it up with proof. It helps prevent you from looking like an idiot.

Here's a lesson for you: The best high performance tire on the market just happens to be the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Piston. It outperforms any other tire in dry and wet conditions and outlasts every other performance tire except the Firestone Firehawk. Do your homework.

The Corvette C5 comes stock with Firestone Firehawks.
The Corvette comes with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires... Chevy had them designed specifically for the C5.

BTW... there's nothing wrong with Bridgestone tires... they're made in Japan and are some of the best tires you can buy.

Firestone gets the crappy reputation it has because of the Explorer shenanigans and because they make some shitty tires for OEM... they also have some kick *** tires that unfortunately get passed over because of the overhanging reputation.

well, I'll take Chevy's word for it... go to www.chevrolet.com
then Corvette, Specifications, Wheel/Tire
Personally, I'll take Chevy's word over Tire Rack's... unless of course you want to call Chevy and tell them they're wrong.

Profile doesn't make as much difference in handling compared to WIDTH, IMO.

And it's not that I don't believe you. In fact, there happens to be a difference between the stock tire (as you actually are right, it is a Goodyear) and a tire that's design is based on the performance of a certain car.

Oh please, like Honda can make the perfect automobile. lease: Like ALL Hondas have ever lived up to their name. Companies make mistakes here and there with their various products that work in various ways. Bridgestone can make a good performance tire, but can they make a normal granny tire? Yes. In fact, all the bad ones were recalled YEARS ago. Can Acura make a sporty luxory coupe? Yes. (CL) But will it sell enough? No. That car has been discontinued, just like the Prelude.

BTW, that was not an attack. If it was an attack, you wouldn't be the only person whinning about it right now. I pretty much just said, "I don't like your uneducated post, so learn something new."

everybody's entitled to their own opinion and i still think bridgestone/firestone tires are the ********, and i don't really care if lambo or ferrari starts putting those tires on their entire lineup, they are still ******** to me, if you READ your own posting, it looks like you were the one offended, anyhow i don't feel discussing this matter anymore, its irrelevant since you do your research soo good, go ahead rubber man, i will not post anymore msgs regarding this, enjoy )

Your opinion is that Bridgestone/Firestones suck. That's fine. That's you.

But your advice is misleading. You may believe your opinion is strong enough to state a fact to assist others, but you happen to be very miseducated.

You could try seeing the truth for yourself but I'm not out to change anyone's opinion. Case closed.

ok what do you think the best tire size would be in the 45 series for a 17in rim i want long lasting and good handling, but long lasting comes first i hate buying new tires.

215/225 without a doubt. 205 sucks unless you're running a wheel with a 6 inch width. I would prefer 215 because of the speedometer AND it's already unfortunately a little too wide for the rear fenders on a lowered car. However, a camber kit could fix that if you add some negative camber. Because you'll have to resort to adding negative camber, the tires will wear more, but the plus side is you'll have more traction in corners.

It's a compromise. More performance always sacrifices something else in the comfort/longevity department. If your car is really low, you can go with the 205 and not worrying about rubbing. But 205 sucks in the performance department especially with larger/wider wheels.

On the other hand, if your car isn't too low where the tire won't rub the wheel well, I'd go as wide as possible. 215 however is the natural choice.

my car isn't lowered any more so i don't have to worry about that so would yo suggest 215 or 225? and which or the 2 would last longer in your opinion
