well, i got 17x8 rims from ups today and it sux they were 5 lug... i'm a stock 4 lug. but anyways can i put on 235/40/17 tires on my 17x7.5? i still have my 205/40/17s on the rim and they are worn to the bone. all i can say now is i modified my wheel well so they can fit by cutting out some of the plastic from the wheel well. did a good job too

Why would you use a 235 tire??? Thats 50mm wider than stock! Did you cut enough to account for when the steering wheel is turned all the way... it sounds like you might as well pull the whole fender well, I just think thats way too much tire... it'll be flopping out the sides od the rim and stuff, but I guess if you really wanted to, you could use it... I know someone who has 235s on 7.5s and they look like , its too much tire. Why not just stick with one of the sizes that works? You really think you have enough torque to need a 9" contact patch? It'll honestly slow you down cuz of all the friction.

hmm... well, i may be wrong but i hear you can corner better from it. one guy at my school has a 7th gen with 235's on an 8 inch tells me how he can take corners like a dream. i just copied him by modding the wheel well. well... yeah it would in fact slow me down but i'd wanna see if they would fit on a rim half an inch narrower and help take those tight turns better than a cop car can. i guess next year, i'll be either k20ed or turbo'd so i think it can be beneficial.

235 is way to wide....215 would be the widest I'd go.

235 also slows you down even more. I am driving on a set of 215/40-18. In "dry weather", it handles not much different than my WRX with 225/45-18. The more contact the tires has to the ground, the slower you go, or the more gas it eats. Just not worth it. Instead getting wider tires, your negative camber should help you on cornering.

just from switching from my 18's with 225/40 to my stockies, i gained like 30-40 miles a tank... haha... now im looking for some forged rims... i rubbed alot with my 225's and i was at stock height... don't get anything bigger than 215

Hey Chrissy,

As far as manufacturer recommendations for the 235 width, the answer is no. They all say a rim width of 8" to 9.5"

Can it be done? But of course lol

Here is all the advice I can offer on fitment:
Be sure your wheelwell modifications left room for the 9.1" tread that could get as wide as a cross-section width of 9.4" when your suspension bottoms out. Don't forget the new tires will be around 1/2" larger in overall diameter too!

If you go ahead with this, we expect a full "7.5 Inch Report" lol
By now you have seen the unanimous consensus of our members, so we don't blame you if you go with a more conventional rim/tire combination.

well, how about 225s? i talked to some guy today and he said that 225/40 would fit optimally. i also saw that 235 would flop around alot since its so wide.

That will cut it down to about 9" at its fattest part

The weird thing is....I only know of ONE tire made in that size: Nitto NT-555
All the other manufacturers kind of skip over the 225/40 size.
