well, i got 17x8 rims from ups today and it sux they were 5 lug... i'm a stock 4 lug. but anyways can i put on 235/40/17 tires on my 17x7.5? i still have my 205/40/17s on the rim and they are worn to the bone. all i can say now is i modified my wheel well so they can fit by cutting out some of the plastic from the wheel well. did a good job too

Rep Power: 400 Why would you use a 235 tire??? Thats 50mm wider than stock! Did you cut enough to account for when the steering wheel is turned all the way... it sounds like you might as well pull the whole fender well, I just think thats way too much tire... it'll be flopping out the sides od the rim and stuff, but I guess if you really wanted to, you could use it... I know someone who has 235s on 7.5s and they look like , its too much tire. Why not just stick with one of the sizes that works? You really think you have enough torque to need a 9" contact patch? It'll honestly slow you down cuz of all the friction.

Rep Power: 0 235 also slows you down even more. I am driving on a set of 215/40-18. In "dry weather", it handles not much different than my WRX with 225/45-18. The more contact the tires has to the ground, the slower you go, or the more gas it eats. Just not worth it. Instead getting wider tires, your negative camber should help you on cornering.

As far as manufacturer recommendations for the 235 width, the answer is no. They all say a rim width of 8" to 9.5"
Can it be done? But of course lol
Here is all the advice I can offer on fitment:
Be sure your wheelwell modifications left room for the 9.1" tread that could get as wide as a cross-section width of 9.4" when your suspension bottoms out. Don't forget the new tires will be around 1/2" larger in overall diameter too!
If you go ahead with this, we expect a full "7.5 Inch Report" lol
By now you have seen the unanimous consensus of our members, so we don't blame you if you go with a more conventional rim/tire combination.

Rep Power: 0 That will cut it down to about 9" at its fattest part
The weird thing is....I only know of ONE tire made in that size: Nitto NT-555
All the other manufacturers kind of skip over the 225/40 size.
