question about clearcoat

I've got a set of Racing Hart rims and on one, there is a small bad spot in the clear coat. It's no bigger than the eraser on a pencil, and it's a manufacture defect, you can easily tell it hasn't been curbed or anything. My question is, can I just buy clear coat, put it on, smooth it out, and call it a day, or should I do something else?

Ushually to fix clear coat, we would sand the affected area smooth, then sand the rest of the part (in this case the rest of the wheel) with out going through the clear coat, then spray the whole thing with clear. That way you get a nice top coat of clear. If you were to just spray the affected area, you would most likely still be able to see the damaged clear. Good luck with that.

Since you said it's a manufacturer defect, can't you just get it replaced? It would be much easier than trying to fix it yourself.

That would suck being without a rim though. What kind of Racing Harts are they?

CivicEnvy2001 - I'll check, but I believe they're past warranty. Also, what kind of rims/ defects did you have?

slystad810 - They're Racing Hart CR Evos, 17x7.

I have Motegi MR7's. I bought them online, so I had them shipped to me. Well when I got them there was a big, deep scratch on one of them. So I called them up and they had UPS pick it up from my house. They were really good about it.
