bolt pattern,offset,drop
bolt pattern,offset,drop
I understand that our cars use a 4x100 bolt pattern, but the wheels I am looking at have 2 choices of 2 bolt patterns. 4x100/4x108 or 4x100/4x114.3. Which patterns are better?Which one has more material between the holes?
As far as offset, Im reading that a +40mm to +45mm is ideal for a 17" x 7" wheel? Would it be better to go with with the 40 or the 45 or does it not matter?
Lastly, I might drop my car in the future. I will be using 215/45-17 tires. I know this question has been asked many times. Will they rub with the drop? Ive been reading on here and seems that some people do and some people dont. The ones that did only had the problem once they lowered the car. What would cause this not to work? Wrong offset? Wider wheel(7.5")?
Thanks.
Steve

i would go with 4x100 & 4x114.3. The reason is that 4x100 fits civics and integras, and 4x114.3 fits accords and other import big 4 lug cars. the 4x108 is for ford. designed for the focus. so its up to you. i currently have th 215/45/17 tires. my offset is +40MM and i have no rubbing problems and my car is dropped with H&R springs. My car never has any rubbing problems even with a full load.

The rubbing could have to do with several things... it also depends where it's rubbing. I know right now, if I drop my car too far, I'm going to put the rear tires right through the fenders. I've got Superleggeras which have a 37 offset, putting the centerline in almost the wheel in exactly the same spot as the stock wheels. So they just hang an extra 1/2" on each side of where the stock wheels would be (7" vs. 6"). Problem being that the 1/2" on the outside is under the rear fender lip and if lowered too far would cause a rub there. If there's too much offset, you could end up rubbing the spring perch or maybe the fender liner when you turn the wheel. There's lots of causes that could create a rub in different locations.
I would go with the 40 offset, 100/114.3 combo... it should cover almost all 4 lug FWD cars.

lower the offset.. the more it sticks out.. higher the number.. the more it tucks. if you would go with a 17x7.5 or a 18x7.5, 7.5inch width, i recommend +42MM. if you would use a +40MM on a 7.5" rim, it might rubb the outter fender and the fender has to be rolled. if you use a +45MM on a 7.5inch width rim, it will rubb in the inner wheel well if your car is really low or when you hit bumps forcing the wheel to go into the wheel well.
