Good tire size for stock EX wheels?

Just got my second 7th gen civic and I am thinking about upgrading the rubber.

First off..... I am a old man, a dad, husband, yadda yadda, and I still need my car to be totally functional in the roll of picking my kid up from school and having a decent ride on the highway so the 40 series stuff is not gonna work for me.

I just bought a bone stock 03 coupe EX 5 speed, and the factory wheels could look better they are "OK" enough not to replace them, but the tires leave something to be desired.

I was thinking 205/60/15 or 195/60/15.

What do you guys think would be a good tire for the stock wheels?

Thanks guys! What about the tire itself? Any recommendations on a high performance all season? I'd like to get 35k miles out of them.

Yokohama Avid V4/H4.

They grip great and have lasted me for quite some time. Only thing I don't like about the tire is the fact that it squeals if you do an aggressive turn WHICH in turn can attract unwanted attention.

Tire size? 195-60-15 vs. 205-60-15 is probably minimal but a wider tire offers more grip. I have them in 195. Only thing else I can say is looks... the 195 looks better since the tire isn't as wide as a 205 (meaning it doesn't stick out as noticably). It's completely a personal choice. I wouldn't go lower than a 55 profile on a 15 inch rim but it will throw your speedometer off on a Honda Civic.

Anyone have any pics of a 15" wheel running a 205 width tire? I was set on 205s, but this sounds like an interesting point, I dont want the tires sticking out of the wheel wells.

205's are not that much wider, and they won't stick out very far if they do at all. Soniccivic recomended some good wearing tires but they lack a lot of grip. If you want to get pretty good wear and good grip I would go with a Yoko YK420. They are the step above the Avid they wear maybe 2/3's as well as the Avid but they provide great grip.

I'll have to disagree. Compared to stock, Avid H4 does NOT lack a lot of grip though I will agree that there are better gripping tires out there. Keep in mind he's not looking for a performance tire. It provides fine grip and adequate steering response but by taking them to the limit, yeah there is better. If he wants a performance tire, I would not have suggested an H rated tire.

BTW, why can't I find a Yokohama YK420 on tirerack.com?

EDIT: n.m. I found it on discounttire.com. It's H rated too and the tread design looks just like the V4/H4 with some very slight alteration Sidewall looks better on V4/H4 though.

Strangely enough, I can't find the Avid H4 on discounttire. From the few reviews of the YK40, it sounds just like the H4.

I'd go with the 205/60/15. Go to www.tirerack.com and search for tires. They had a whole bunch from $40-135 a piece. You can compare all the tires to each other too. It's a good site.
